Narrated Ibn `Umar: While some people were offering morning prayer at Quba' a man came to them and said, A Qur'anic Order has been revealed to Allah's Messenger tonight that he should face the Ka`ba at Mecca (in prayer), so you too should turn your faces towards it. At that moment their faces were towards Sham (i.e. Jerusalem) (and on hearing that) they turned towards the Ka`ba (at Mecca).

حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدُ بْنُ مَخْلَدٍ , حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ , حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ دِينَارٍ , عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا : بَيْنَمَا النَّاسُ فِي الصُّبْحِ بِقُبَاءٍ جَاءَهُمْ رَجُلٌ ، فَقَالَ : إِنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَدْ أُنْزِلَ عَلَيْهِ اللَّيْلَةَ قُرْآنٌ ، وَأُمِرَ أَنْ يَسْتَقْبِلَ الْكَعْبَةَ ، أَلَا فَاسْتَقْبِلُوهَا وَكَانَ وَجْهُ النَّاسِ إِلَى الشَّأْمِ فَاسْتَدَارُوا بِوُجُوهِهِمْ إِلَى الْكَعْبَةِ .

ہم سے خالد بن مخلد نے بیان کیا، کہا ہم سے سلیمان نے بیان کیا، کہا مجھ سے عبداللہ بن دینار نے بیان کیا اور ان سے ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما نے بیان کیا کہ   لوگ مسجد قباء میں صبح کی نماز پڑھ رہے تھے کہ ایک صاحب وہاں آئے اور کہا کہ رات رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم پر قرآن نازل ہوا ہے کہ ( نماز میں ) کعبہ کی طرف منہ کریں، پس آپ لوگ بھی اب کعبہ کی طرف رخ کر لیں۔ راوی نے بیان کیا کہ لوگوں کا منہ اس وقت شام ( بیت المقدس ) کی طرف تھا، اسی وقت لوگ کعبہ کی طرف پھر گئے۔
