حَدَّثَنِي إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي بُكَيْرٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْرَائِيلُ ، عَنْ أَبِي حَصِينٍ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا ، قَالَ : وَمِنَ النَّاسِ مَنْ يَعْبُدُ اللَّهَ عَلَى حَرْفٍ سورة الحج آية 11 ، قَالَ : كَانَ الرَّجُلُ يَقْدَمُ الْمَدِينَةَ ، فَإِنْ وَلَدَتِ امْرَأَتُهُ غُلَامًا وَنُتِجَتْ خَيْلُهُ ، قَالَ : هَذَا دِينٌ صَالِحٌ ، وَإِنْ لَمْ تَلِدِ امْرَأَتُهُ ، وَلَمْ تُنْتَجْ خَيْلُهُ ، قَالَ : هَذَا دِينُ سُوءٍ .

Urdu Translation

مجھ سے ابراہیم بن حارث نے بیان کیا، کہا ہم سے یحییٰ بن ابی بکیر نے، کہا ہم سے اسرائیل نے بیان کیا، ان سے ابوحصین نے ان سے سعید بن جبیر نے اور ان سے ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما نے   آیت «ومن الناس من يعبد الله على حرف‏» ”اور انسانوں میں کوئی ایسا بھی ہوتا ہے جو اللہ کی عبادت کنارہ پر ( کھڑا ہو کر ) کرتا ہے۔“ کے متعلق فرمایا کہ بعض لوگ مدینہ آتے ( اور اپنے اسلام کا اظہار کرتے ) اس کے بعد اگر اس کی بیوی کے یہاں لڑکا پیدا ہوتا اور گھوڑی بھی بچہ دیتی تو وہ کہتے کہ یہ دین ( اسلام ) بڑا اچھا دین ہے، لیکن اگر ان کے یہاں لڑکا نہ پیدا ہوتا اور گھوڑی بھی کوئی بچہ نہ دیتی تو کہتے کہ یہ تو برا دین ہے اس پر مذکور بالا آیت نازل ہوئی۔

English Translation

Narrated Ibn `Abbas: Regarding the Verse: And among men is he who worships Allah's as it were on the very edge. (22.11). A man used to come to Medina as if his wife brought a son and his mares produces offspring. He would say, This religion (Islam) is good, but if his wife did not give birth to a child and his mares produced no offspring, he would say, This religion is bad.
