حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ ، حَدَّثَنِي نَافِعٌ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا ، قَالَ : قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : أَخْبِرُونِي بِشَجَرَةٍ مَثَلُهَا مَثَلُ الْمُسْلِمِ تُؤْتِي أُكُلَهَا كُلَّ حِينٍ بِإِذْنِ رَبِّهَا وَلَا تَحُتُّ وَرَقَهَا ، فَوَقَعَ فِي نَفْسِي أَنَّهَا النَّخْلَةُ فَكَرِهْتُ أَنْ أَتَكَلَّمَ ، وَثَمَّ أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرُ فَلَمَّا لَمْ يَتَكَلَّمَا ، قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : هِيَ النَّخْلَةُ فَلَمَّا خَرَجْتُ مَعَ أَبِي قُلْتُ : يَا أَبَتَاهُ وَقَعَ فِي نَفْسِي أَنَّهَا النَّخْلَةُ ، قَالَ : مَا مَنَعَكَ أَنْ تَقُولَهَا ؟ لَوْ كُنْتَ قُلْتَهَا كَانَ أَحَبَّ إِلَيَّ مِنْ كَذَا وَكَذَا ، قَالَ : مَا مَنَعَنِي إِلَّا أَنِّي لَمْ أَرَكَ وَلَا أَبَا بَكْرٍ تَكَلَّمْتُمَا فَكَرِهْتُ .

Urdu Translation

ہم سے مسدد نے بیان کیا، کہا ہم سے یحییٰ بن کثیر نے بیان کیا، ان سے عبیداللہ نے کہا کہ مجھ سے نافع نے بیان کیا اور ان سے عبداللہ بن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما نے بیان کیا کہ   رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا کہ مجھے اس درخت کا نام بتاؤ، جس کی مثال مسلمان کی سی ہے۔ وہ ہمیشہ اپنے رب کے حکم سے پھل دیتا ہے اور اس کے پتے نہیں جھڑا کرتے۔ میرے دل میں آیا کہ کہہ دوں کہ وہ کھجور کا درخت ہے لیکن میں نے کہنا پسند نہیں کیا۔ کیونکہ مجلس میں حضرات ابوبکر اور عمر رضی اللہ عنہما جیسے اکابر بھی موجود تھے۔ پھر جب ان دونوں بزرگوں نے کچھ نہیں کہا تو نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا کہ یہ کھجور کا درخت ہے۔ جب میں اپنے والد کے ساتھ نکلا تو میں نے عرض کیا کہ میرے دل میں آیا کہ کہہ دوں یہ کھجور کا درخت ہے، انہوں نے کہا پھر تم نے کہا کیوں نہیں؟ اگر تم نے کہہ دیا ہوتا میرے لیے اتنا مال اور اسباب ملنے سے بھی زیادہ خوشی ہوتی۔ ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما نے بیان کیا کہ ( میں نے عرض کیا ) صرف اس وجہ سے میں نے نہیں کہا کہ جب میں نے آپ کو اور ابوبکر رضی اللہ عنہ جیسے بزرگ کو خاموش دیکھا تو میں نے آپ بزرگوں کے سامنے بات کرنا برا جانا۔

English Translation

Narrated Ibn `Umar: Allah's Apostle said, Inform me of a tree which resembles a Muslim, giving its fruits at every season by the permission of its Lord, and the leaves of which do not fall. I thought of the date-palm tree, but I disliked to speak because Abu Bakr and `Umar were present there. When nobody spoke, the Prophet said, It is the date-palm tree When I came out with my father, I said, O father! It came to my mind that it was the date-palm tree. He said, What prevented you from saying it? Had you said it, it would have been more dearer to me than such-and-such a thing (fortune). I said, Nothing prevented me but the fact that neither you nor Abu Bakr spoke, so I disliked to speak (in your presence).
