حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : حَدَّثَنِي إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ عُقْبَةَ ، عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ عُقْبَةَ ، قَالَ ابْنُ شِهَابٍ : حَدَّثَنِي عُرْوَةُ بْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ ، أَنَّ الْمِسْوَرَ بْنَ مَخْرَمَةَ ، أَخْبَرَهُ ، أَنَّ عَمْرَو بْنَ عَوْفٍ وَهُوَ حَلِيفٌ لِبَنِي عَامِرِ بْنِ لُؤَيٍّ ، كَانَ شَهِدَ بَدْرًا مَع رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، أَخْبَرَهُ : أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بَعَثَ أَبَا عُبَيْدَةَ بْنَ الْجَرَّاحِ إِلَى الْبَحْرَيْنِ ، يَأْتِي بِجِزْيَتِهَا وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ هُوَ صَالَحَ أَهْلَ الْبَحْرَيْنِ ، وَأَمَّرَ عَلَيْهِمُ الْعَلَاءَ بْنَ الْحَضْرَمِيِّ ، فَقَدِمَ أَبُو عُبَيْدَةَ بِمَالٍ مِنَ الْبَحْرَيْنِ ، فَسَمِعَتِ الْأَنْصَارُ بِقُدُومِهِ ، فَوَافَتْهُ صَلَاةَ الصُّبْحِ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفَ تَعَرَّضُوا لَهُ ، فَتَبَسَّمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ حِينَ رَآهُمْ ، وَقَالَ : أَظُنُّكُمْ سَمِعْتُمْ بِقُدُومِ أَبِي عُبَيْدَةَ ، وَأَنَّهُ جَاءَ بِشَيْءٍ ، قَالُوا : أَجَلْ ، يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، قَالَ : فَأَبْشِرُوا وَأَمِّلُوا مَا يَسُرُّكُمْ ، فَوَاللَّهِ مَا الْفَقْرَ أَخْشَى عَلَيْكُمْ ، وَلَكِنْ أَخْشَى عَلَيْكُمْ أَنْ تُبْسَطَ عَلَيْكُمُ الدُّنْيَا كَمَا بُسِطَتْ عَلَى مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ ، فَتَنَافَسُوهَا كَمَا تَنَافَسُوهَا ، وَتُلْهِيَكُمْ كَمَا أَلْهَتْهُمْ .

Urdu Translation

ہم سے اسماعیل بن عبداللہ نے بیان کیا، انہوں نے کہا کہ مجھ سے اسماعیل بن ابراہیم بن عقبہ نے بیان کیا، ان سے موسیٰ بن عقبہ نے کہا کہ ابن شہاب نے بیان کیا کہ مجھ سے عروہ بن زبیر نے بیان کیا اور انہیں مسور بن مخرمہ رضی اللہ عنہ نے خبر دی کہ   عمرو بن عوف رضی اللہ عنہ جو بنی عامر بن عدی کے حلیف تھے اور بدر کی لڑائی میں رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے ساتھ تھے، انہوں نے انہیں خبر دی کہ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ابوعبیدہ بن الجراح رضی اللہ عنہ کو بحرین وہاں کا جزیہ لانے کے لیے بھیجا، نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے بحرین والوں سے صلح کر لی تھی اور ان پر علاء بن الحضرمی کو امیر مقرر کیا تھا۔ جب ابوعبیدہ رضی اللہ عنہ بحرین سے جزیہ کا مال لے کر آئے تو انصار نے ان کے آنے کے متعلق سنا اور صبح کی نماز نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے ساتھ پڑھی اور جب نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم انہیں دیکھ کر مسکرائے اور فرمایا میرا خیال ہے کہ ابوعبیدہ کے آنے کے متعلق تم نے سن لیا ہے اور یہ بھی کہ وہ کچھ لے کر آئے ہیں؟ انصار نے عرض کیا: جی ہاں، یا رسول اللہ! نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا کہ پھر تمہیں خوشخبری ہو تم اس کی امید رکھو جو تمہیں خوش کر دے گی، اللہ کی قسم! فقر و محتاجی وہ چیز نہیں ہے جس سے میں تمہارے متعلق ڈرتا ہوں بلکہ میں تو اس سے ڈرتا ہوں کہ دنیا تم پر بھی اسی طرح کشادہ کر دی جائے گی، جس طرح ان لوگوں پر کر دی گئی تھی جو تم سے پہلے تھے اور تم بھی اس کے لیے ایک دوسرے سے آگے بڑھنے کی اسی طرح کوشش کرو گے جس طرح وہ کرتے تھے اور تمہیں بھی اسی طرح غافل کر دے گی جس طرح ان کو غافل کیا تھا۔

English Translation

Narrated `Amr bin `Auf: (An ally of the tribe of Bani 'Amir bin Lu'ai and one of those who had witnessed the battle of Badr with Allah's Apostle) Allah's Apostle sent Abu 'Ubaida bin AlJarrah to Bahrain to collect the Jizya tax. Allah's Apostle had concluded a peace treaty with the people of Bahrain and appointed Al 'Ala bin Al-Hadrami as their chief; Abu Ubaida arrived from Bahrain with the money. The Ansar heard of Abu 'Ubaida's arrival which coincided with the Fajr (morning) prayer led by Allah's Apostle. When the Prophet finished the prayer, they came to him. Allah's Apostle smiled when he saw them and said, I think you have heard of the arrival of Abu 'Ubaida and that he has brought something. They replied, Yes, O Allah's Apostle! He said, Have the good news, and hope for what will please you. By Allah, I am not afraid that you will become poor, but I am afraid that worldly wealth will be given to you in abundance as it was given to those (nations) before you, and you will start competing each other for it as the previous nations competed for it, and then it will divert you (from good) as it diverted them. '
