حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ أَبِي الْأَسْوَدِ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُعْتَمِرٌ سَمِعْتُ أَبِي ، حَدَّثَنَا قَتَادَةُ ، عَنْ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْغَافِرِ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، أَنَّهُ ذَكَرَ رَجُلًا فِيمَنْ سَلَفَ أَوْ فِيمَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ ، قَالَ : كَلِمَةً يَعْنِي أَعْطَاهُ اللَّهُ مَالًا وَوَلَدًا فَلَمَّا حَضَرَتِ الْوَفَاةُ ، قَالَ لِبَنِيهِ : أَيَّ أَبٍ كُنْتُ لَكُمْ ؟ ، قَالُوا : خَيْرَ أَبٍ ، قَالَ : فَإِنَّهُ لَمْ يَبْتَئِرْ أَوْ لَمْ يَبْتَئِزْ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ خَيْرًا وَإِنْ يَقْدِرِ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ يُعَذِّبْهُ ، فَانْظُرُوا إِذَا مُتُّ ، فَأَحْرِقُونِي حَتَّى إِذَا صِرْتُ فَحْمًا ، فَاسْحَقُونِي ، أَوْ قَالَ فَاسْتَحِلُونِي فَإِذَا كَانَ يَوْمُ رِيحٍ عَاصِفٍ فَأَذْرُونِي فِيهَا ، فَقَالَ نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : فَأَخَذَ مَوَاثِيقَهُمْ عَلَى ذَلِكَ وَرَبِّي ، فَفَعَلُوا ثُمَّ أَذْرَوْهُ فِي يَوْمٍ عَاصِفٍ ، فَقَالَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ : كُنْ فَإِذَا هُوَ رَجُلٌ قَائِمٌ ، قَالَ اللَّهُ : أَيْ عَبْدِي مَا حَمَلَكَ عَلَى أَنْ فَعَلْتَ مَا فَعَلْتَ ، قَالَ : مَخَافَتُكَ أَوْ فَرَقٌ مِنْكَ ، قَالَ : فَمَا تَلَافَاهُ أَنْ رَحِمَهُ عِنْدَهَا ، وَقَالَ مَرَّةً أُخْرَى : فَمَا تَلَافَاهُ غَيْرُهَا ، فَحَدَّثْتُ بِهِ أَبَا عُثْمَانَ ، فَقَالَ : سَمِعْتُ هَذَا مِنْ سَلْمَانَ غَيْرَ أَنَّهُ زَادَ فِيهِ أَذْرُونِي فِي الْبَحْرِ أَوْ كَمَا حَدَّثَ ، حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى ، حَدَّثَنَا مُعْتَمِرٌ ، وَقَالَ : لَمْ يَبْتَئِرْ ، وَقَالَ خَلِيفَةُ : حَدَّثَنَا مُعْتَمِرٌ وَقَالَ لَمْ يَبْتَئِزْ ، فَسَّرَهُ قَتَادَةُ لَمْ يَدَّخِرْ .

Urdu Translation

ہم سے عبداللہ بن ابی الاسود نے بیان کیا، انہوں نے کہا ہم سے معتمر نے بیان کیا، انہوں نے کہا میں نے اپنے والد سے سنا، انہوں نے کہا ہم سے قتادہ نے بیان کیا، ان سے عقبہ بن عبدالغافر نے اور ان سے ابوسعید خدری رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہ   نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے پچھلی امتوں میں سے ایک شخص کا ذکر کیا۔ اس کے متعلق آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ایک کلمہ فرمایا یعنی اللہ نے اسے مال و اولاد سب کچھ دیا تھا۔ جب اس کے مرنے کا وقت قریب آیا تو اس نے اپنے لڑکوں سے پوچھا کہ میں تمہارے لیے کیسا باپ ثابت ہوا۔ انہوں نے کہا کہ بہترین باپ، اس پر اس نے کہا کہ لیکن تمہارے باپ نے اللہ کے ہاں کوئی نیکی نہیں بھیجی ہے اور اگر کہیں اللہ نے مجھے پکڑ پایا تو سخت عذاب کرے گا تو دیکھو جب میں مر جاؤں تو مجھے جلا دینا، یہاں تک کہ جب میں کوئلہ ہو جاؤں تو اسے خوب پیس لینا اور جس دن تیز آندھی آئے اس میں میری یہ راکھ اڑا دینا۔ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا کہ اس پر اس نے اپنے بیٹوں سے پختہ وعدہ لیا اور اللہ کی قسم کہ ان کے لڑکوں نے ایسا ہی کیا، جلا کر راکھ کر ڈالا، پھر انہوں نے اس کی راکھ کو تیز ہوا کے دن اڑا دیا۔ پھر اللہ تعالیٰ نے «كن‏» کا لفظ فرمایا کہ ہو جا تو وہ فوراً ایک مرد بن گیا جو کھڑا ہوا تھا۔ اللہ تعالیٰ نے فرمایا، اے میرے بندے! تجھے کس بات نے اس پر آمادہ کیا کہ تو نے یہ کام کرایا۔ اس نے کہا کہ تیرے خوف نے۔ بیان کیا کہ اللہ تعالیٰ نے اس کو کوئی سزا نہیں دی بلکہ اس پر رحم کیا۔ پھر میں نے یہ بات ابوعثمان نہدی سے بیان کی تو انہوں نے کہا کہ میں نے اسے سلیمان فارسی سے سنا، البتہ انہوں نے یہ لفظ زیادہ کئے کہ «أذروني في البحر‏.‏» یعنی میری راکھ کو دریا میں ڈال دینا یا کچھ ایسا ہی بیان کیا۔ ہم سے موسیٰ بن اسماعیل نے بیان کیا، کہا ہم سے معتمر بن سلیمان نے بیان کیا اور اس نے «لم يبتئر‏.‏» کے الفاظ کہے اور خلیفہ بن خیاط ( امام بخاری رحمہ اللہ کے شیخ ) نے کہا ہم سے معتمر نے بیان کیا پھر یہی حدیث نقل کی۔ اس میں «لم يبتئر‏.‏» ہے۔ قتادہ نے اس کے معنی یہ کئے ہیں یعنی کوئی نیکی آخرت کے لیے ذخیرہ نہیں کی۔

English Translation

Narrated Abu Sa`id: The Prophet mentioned a man from the people of the past or those who preceded you. The Prophet said a sentence meaning: Allah had given him wealth and children. When his death approached, he said to his sons, What kind of father have I been to you? They replied, You have been a good father. He told them that he had not presented any good deed before Allah, and if Allah should get hold of him He would punish him.' So look! he added, When I die, burn me, and when I turn into coal, crush me, and when there comes a windy day, scatter my ashes in the wind. The Prophet added, Then by Allah, he took a firm promise from his children to do so, and they did so. (They burnt him after his death) and threw his ashes on a windy day. Then Allah commanded to his ashes. Be, and behold! He became a man standing! Allah said, O My slave! What made you do what you did? He replied, For fear of You. Nothing saved him then but Allah's Mercy (So Allah forgave him).
