Narrated Ali ibn Abu Talib: The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: Allah is single (witr) and loves what is single, so observe the witr, you who follow the Quran.

حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ مُوسَى، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَخْبَرَنَا عِيسَى، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ زَكَرِيَّا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَاصِمٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَلِيٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ يَا أَهْلَ الْقُرْآنِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَوْتِرُوا فَإِنَّ اللَّهَ وِتْرٌ يُحِبُّ الْوِتْرَ .

علی رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ  رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”اے قرآن والو! ۱؎ وتر پڑھا کرو اس لیے کہ اللہ وتر (طاق) ہے اور وتر کو پسند کرتا ہے“۔
