حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ أَبِي خَلَفٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو زَكَرِيَّا يَحْيَى بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ السَّيْلَحِينِيُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْثَابِتٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ رَبَاحٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ لِأَبِي بَكْرٍ:‏‏‏‏ مَتَى تُوتِرُ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أُوتِرُ مِنْ أَوَّلِ اللَّيْلِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَالَ لِعُمَرَ:‏‏‏‏ مَتَى تُوتِرُ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ آخِرَ اللَّيْلِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ لِأَبِي بَكْرٍ:‏‏‏‏ أَخَذَ هَذَا بِالْحَزْمِ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَالَ لِعُمَرَ:‏‏‏‏ أَخَذَ هَذَا بِالْقُوَّةِ .

Urdu Translation

ابوقتادہ رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ   نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ابوبکر رضی اللہ عنہ سے پوچھا: تم وتر کب پڑھتے ہو؟ ، انہوں نے عرض کیا: میں اول شب میں وتر پڑھتا ہوں، پھر آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے عمر رضی اللہ عنہ سے پوچھا: تم کب پڑھتے ہو؟ ، انہوں نے عرض کیا: آخر شب میں، آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ابوبکر سے فرمایا کہ انہوں نے احتیاط پر عمل کیا، اور عمر سے فرمایا کہ انہوں نے مشکل کام اختیار کیا جو طاقت و قوت کا متقاضی ہے ۱؎۔

English Translation

Narrated Abu Qatadah: The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم asked Abu Bakr: When do you observe the witr? He replied: I observe the witr prayer in the early hours of the night. The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم asked Umar: When do you observe the witr? He replied: At the end of the night. He then said to Abu Bakr: This has followed it with care; and he said to Umar: He has followed it with strength.
