حَدَّثَنَا الْقَعْنَبِيُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ مَالِكٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عُرْوَةَ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْقَارِيِّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ سَمِعْتُعُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏يَقُولُ:‏‏‏‏ سَمِعْتُ هِشَامَ بْنَ حَكِيمِ بْنِ حِزَامٍ يَقْرَأُ سُورَةَ الْفُرْقَانِ عَلَى غَيْرِ مَا أَقْرَؤُهَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَقْرَأَنِيهَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَكِدْتُ أَنْ أَعْجَلَ عَلَيْهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ أَمْهَلْتُهُ حَتَّى انْصَرَفَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ لَبَّبْتُهُ بِرِدَائِهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَجِئْتُ بِهِ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقُلْتُ:‏‏‏‏ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ هَذَا يَقْرَأُ سُورَةَ الْفُرْقَانِ عَلَى غَيْرِ مَا أَقْرَأْتَنِيهَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ اقْرَأْ فَقَرَأَ الْقِرَاءَةَ الَّتِي سَمِعْتُهُ يَقْرَأُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ هَكَذَا أُنْزِلَتْ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ قَالَ لِيَ:‏‏‏‏ اقْرَأْ فَقَرَأْتُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ هَكَذَا أُنْزِلَتْ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّ هَذَا الْقُرْآنَ أُنْزِلَ عَلَى سَبْعَةِ أَحْرُفٍ فَاقْرَءُوا مَا تَيَسَّرَ مِنْهُ .

Urdu Translation

عمر بن خطاب رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ   میں نے ہشام بن حکیم بن حزام رضی اللہ عنہ کو سورۃ الفرقان پڑھتے سنا، وہ اس طریقے سے ہٹ کر پڑھ رہے تھے جس طرح میں پڑھتا تھا حالانکہ مجھے خود رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے پڑھایا تھا تو قریب تھا کہ میں ان پر جلدی کر بیٹھوں ۱؎ لیکن میں نے انہیں مہلت دی اور پڑھنے دیا یہاں تک کہ وہ فارغ ہو گئے تو میں نے ان کی چادر پکڑ کر انہیں گھسیٹا اور انہیں لے کر رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی خدمت میں حاضر ہوا، میں نے عرض کیا: اللہ کے رسول! میں نے انہیں سورۃ الفرقان اس کے برعکس پڑھتے سنا ہے جس طرح آپ نے مجھے سکھائی ہے، رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ہشام سے فرمایا: تم پڑھو ، انہوں نے ویسے ہی پڑھا جیسے میں نے پڑھتے سنا تھا، اس پر رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: یہ اسی طرح نازل ہوئی ہے ، پھر مجھ سے فرمایا: تم پڑھو ، میں نے بھی پڑھا، آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: اسی طرح نازل ہوئی ہے ، پھر فرمایا: قرآن مجید سات حرفوں ۲؎پر نازل ہوا ہے، لہٰذا جس طرح آسان لگے پڑھ ۔

English Translation

Umar bin al-Khattab said: I heard Hisham bin Hakim (b. Hizam) reciting Surah al-Furqan in a different manner from my way of reciting, and the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم had taught me to recite it. I nearly spoke sharply to him, but I delayed till he had finished. Then I caught his cloak at the neck, and I brought him to the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم. I said: Messenger of Allah, I heard this man reciting Surah al-Furqan in a manner different from that in which you taught me to recite it. The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم the told him to recite it. He then recited in the manner I heard him recite. The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: Thus was it sent down. He then said to me: Recite, I recited (it). He then said: Thus was it sent down. He said: The Quran was sent down in seven modes of reading, so recite according to what comes most easily.
