حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْفُرَاتِ يَعْنِي أَبَا مَسْعُودٍ الرَّازِيَّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْمَخْرَمِيُّ وَهَذَا لَفْظُهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَا:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا شَبَابَةُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْوَرْقَاءَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ كَانُوا يَحُجُّونَ وَلَا يَتَزَوَّدُونَ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ أَبُو مَسْعُودٍ:‏‏‏‏ كَانَ أَهْلُ الْيَمَنِ أَوْ نَاسٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْيَمَنِ يَحُجُّونَ وَلَا يَتَزَوَّدُونَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَيَقُولُونَ:‏‏‏‏ نَحْنُ الْمُتَوَكِّلُونَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ سُبْحَانَهُ:‏‏‏‏ وَتَزَوَّدُوا فَإِنَّ خَيْرَ الزَّادِ التَّقْوَى سورة البقرة آية 197، ‏‏‏‏‏‏الْآيَةَ.

Urdu Translation

عبداللہ بن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما کہتے ہیں کہ   لوگ حج کو جاتے اور زاد راہ نہیں لے جاتے۔ ابومسعود رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں: اہل یمن یا اہل یمن میں سے کچھ لوگ حج کو جاتے اور زاد راہ نہیں لیتے اور کہتے: ہم متوکل ( اللہ پر بھروسہ کرنے والے ) ہیں تو اللہ نے آیت کریمہ«وتزودوا فإن خير الزاد التقوى» ۱؎ ( زاد راہ ساتھ لے لو اس لیے کہ بہترین زاد راہ یہ ہے کہ آدمی سوال سے بچے ) نازل فرمائی۔

English Translation

Ibn Abbas said: People used to perform Hajj and not bring provisions with them. Abu Masud said the inhabitants of Yemen or people of Yemen used to perform Hajj and not bring provisions with them. They would declare we put our trust in Allah. So Allah most high sent down “ and bring provisions, but the best provision is piety”.
