Narrated Aishah: The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم as saying: If anyone dies when some fast is due from him (i. e. which he could not keep) his heir must fast on his behalf. Abu Dawud said: This applies to the fast which a man vows ; and this is the opinion of Ahmad bin Hanbal.

حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ صَالِحٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي جَعْفَرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عُرْوَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ مَنْ مَاتَ وَعَلَيْهِ صِيَامٌ صَامَ عَنْهُ وَلِيُّهُ . قَالَ أَبُو دَاوُد:‏‏‏‏ هَذَا فِي النَّذْرِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَهُوَ قَوْلُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ حَنْبَلٍ.

ام المؤمنین عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا سے روایت ہے کہ   نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: جو شخص فوت ہو جائے اور اس کے ذمہ روزے ہوں تو اس کی جانب سے اس کا ولی روزے رکھے گا ۔ ابوداؤد کہتے ہیں: یہ حکم نذر کے روزے کا ہے اور یہی احمد بن حنبل کا قول ہے۔
