حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ بُدَيْلٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ ابْنِ عُمَرَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنَّ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ جَعَلَ عَلَيْهِ أَنْ يَعْتَكِفَ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ لَيْلَةً أَوْ يَوْمًا عِنْدَ الْكَعْبَةِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَسَأَلَ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ اعْتَكِفْ وَصُمْ

Urdu Translation

عبداللہ بن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما کہتے ہیں کہ   عمر رضی اللہ عنہ نے زمانہ جاہلیت میں اپنے اوپر کعبہ کے پاس ایک دن اور ایک رات کے اعتکاف کی نذر مانی تھی تو انہوں نے نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے دریافت کیا تو آپ نے فرمایا: اعتکاف کرو اور روزہ رکھو

English Translation

Narrated Abdullah ibn Umar: Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) took a vow in the pre-Islamic days to spend a night or a day in devotion near the Kabah (in the sacred mosque). He asked the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم about it. He said: Observe Itikaf (i. e. spend a night or a day near the Kabah) and fast.
