حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَمْروِ بْنِ السَّرْحِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنِي عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ زِيَادٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ رَافِعٍ التَّنُوخِيِّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ الْعَاصِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ الْعِلْمُ ثَلَاثَةٌ وَمَا سِوَى ذَلِكَ فَهُوَ فَضْلٌ آيَةٌ مُحْكَمَةٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَوْ سُنَّةٌ قَائِمَةٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَوْ فَرِيضَةٌ عَادِلَةٌ .

Urdu Translation

عبداللہ بن عمرو بن العاص رضی اللہ عنہما کہتے ہیں کہ   رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ( اصل ) علم تین ہیں اور ان کے علاوہ علوم کی حیثیت فضل ( زائد ) کی ہے: آیت محکمہ ۲؎، یا سنت قائمہ ۳؎، یا فریضہ عادلہ ۴؎ ۔

English Translation

Narrated Abdullah ibn Amr ibn al-As: The Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم said: Knowledge has three categories; anything else is extra; a precise verse, or an established sunnah (practice), or a firm obligatory duty.
