حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْمَوْصِلِيُّ أَبُو عَلِيٍّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ ثَابِتٍ الْعَبْدِيُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَخْبَرَنَا نَافِعٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ انْطَلَقْتُ مَعَ ابْنِ عُمَرَفِي حَاجَةٍ إِلَى ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَضَى ابْنُ عُمَرَ حَاجَتَهُ فَكَانَ مِنْ حَدِيثِهِ يَوْمَئِذٍ أَنْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ مَرَّ رَجُلٌ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي سِكَّةٍ مِنَ السِّكَكِ وَقَدْ خَرَجَ مِنْ غَائِطٍ أَوْ بَوْلٍ فَسَلَّمَ عَلَيْهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَلَمْ يَرُدَّ عَلَيْهِ حَتَّى إِذَا كَادَ الرَّجُلُ أَنْ يَتَوَارَى فِي السِّكَّةِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ضَرَبَ بِيَدَيْهِ عَلَى الْحَائِطِ وَمَسَحَ بِهِمَا وَجْهَهُ ثُمَّ ضَرَبَ ضَرْبَةً أُخْرَى فَمَسَحَ ذِرَاعَيْهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ رَدَّ عَلَى الرَّجُلِ السَّلَامَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّهُ لَمْ يَمْنَعْنِي أَنْ أَرُدَّ عَلَيْكَ السَّلَامَ إِلَّا أَنِّي لَمْ أَكُنْ عَلَى طُهْرٍ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ أَبُو دَاوُد:‏‏‏‏ سَمِعْت أَحْمَدَ بْنَ حَنْبَلٍ، يَقُولُ:‏‏‏‏ رَوَى مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ ثَابِتٍ حَدِيثًا مُنْكَرًا فِي التَّيَمُّمِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ ابْنُ دَاسَةَ:‏‏‏‏ قَالَ أَبُو دَاوُد:‏‏‏‏ لَمْ يُتَابَعْ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ ثَابِتٍ فِي هَذِهِ الْقِصَّةِ عَلَى ضَرْبَتَيْنِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَرَوَوْهُ فِعْلَ ابْنِ عُمَرَ.

Urdu Translation

نافع کہتے ہیں: میں ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما کے   ساتھ کسی ضرورت کے تحت ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما کے پاس گیا، ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما نے اپنی ضرورت پوری کی اور اس دن ان کی گفتگو میں یہ بات بھی شامل تھی کہ ایک آدمی ایک گلی میں رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے پاس سے ہو کر گزرا اور آپ ( ابھی ) پاخانہ یا پیشاب سے فارغ ہو کر نکلے تھے کہ اس آدمی نے سلام کیا تو آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے اس کے سلام کا جواب نہیں دیا، یہاں تک کہ جب وہ شخص گلی میں آپ کی نظروں سے اوجھل ہو جانے کے قریب ہوا تو آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے اپنے دونوں ہاتھ دیوار پر مارے اور انہیں اپنے چہرے پر پھیرا، پھر دوسری بار اپنے دونوں ہاتھ دیوار پر مارے اور اس سے دونوں ہاتھوں کا مسح کیا پھر اس کے سلام کا جواب دیا اور فرمایا: مجھے تیرے سلام کا جواب دینے میں کوئی چیز مانع نہیں تھی سوائے اس کے کہ میں پاکی کی حالت میں نہیں تھا ۔ ابوداؤد کہتے ہیں: میں نے احمد بن حنبل کو کہتے سنا کہ محمد بن ثابت نے تیمم کے باب میں ایک منکر حدیث روایت کی ہے۔ ابن داسہ کہتے ہیں کہ ابوداؤد نے کہا ہے کہ اس قصے میں نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے دو ضربہ پر محمد بن ثابت کی متابعت ( موافقت ) نہیں کی گئی ہے، صرف انہوں نے ہی دو ضربہ کو رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کا فعل قرار دیا ہے، ان کے علاوہ دیگر حضرات نے اسے ابن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما کا فعل روایت کیا ہے۔

English Translation

Nafi said: Accompanied by Abdullah bin Umar, I went to Ibn Abbas for a certain work. He (Ibn Abbas) narrated a tradition saying: A man passed by the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم in a street, while he returned from the toilet or just urinated. He (the man) saluted him, but the Prophet did not return the salutation. When the man was about to disappear (from sight) in the street he struck the wall with both his hands and wiped his face with them. He then struck another stroke and wipes his arms. He then returned the man's salutation. Then he said: I did not return the salutation to you because I was not purified. Abu Dawud said: I heard Ahmad bin Hanbal say: Muhammad bin Thabit reported a rejected tradition. Ibn Dasah said: Abu Dawud said: No one supported Muhammad bin Thabit in respect of narrating this tradition as to striking the wall twice (for wiping) from the Prophet صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم, but reported it as an action of Ibn Umar.
