حَدَّثَنَا نَصْرُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو أَحْمَدَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا كَثِيرُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ الْمُطَّلِبِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ حَنْطَبٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ دَخَلَ زَيْدُ بْنُ ثَابِتٍ عَلَى مُعَاوِيَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَسَأَلَهُ عَنْ حَدِيثٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَأَمَرَ إِنْسَانًا يَكْتُبُهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ لَهُ زَيْدٌ:‏‏‏‏ إِنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَمَرَنَا أَنْ لَا نَكْتُبَ شَيْئًا مِنْ حَدِيثِهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَمَحَاهُ .

Urdu Translation

مطلب بن عبداللہ بن حنطب کہتے ہیں کہ   زید بن ثابت رضی اللہ عنہ معاویہ رضی اللہ عنہ کے پاس آئے اور ان سے ایک حدیث کے متعلق پوچھا، تو انہوں نے ایک شخص کو اس حدیث کے لکھنے کا حکم دیا، تو زید رضی اللہ عنہ نے ان سے کہا: رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ہمیں حکم دیا ہے کہ ہم آپ کی حدیثوں میں سے کچھ نہ لکھیں تو انہوں نے اسے مٹا دیا ۱؎۔

English Translation

Narrated Al-Muttalib bin Abdullah bin Hantab: Al-Muttalib ibn Abdullah ibn Hantab said: Zayd ibn Thabit entered upon Muawiyah and asked him about a tradition. He ordered a man to write it. Zayd said: The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ordered us not to write any of his traditions. So he erased it.
