حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ يَحْيَى ابْنِ سَعِيدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي أُمَامَةَ بْنِ سَهْلٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ كُنَّا مَعَ عُثْمَانَ وَهُوَ مَحْصُورٌ فِي الدَّارِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَكَانَ فِي الدَّارِ مَدْخَلٌ مَنْ دَخَلَهُ سَمِعَ كَلَامَ مَنْ عَلَى الْبَلَاطِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَدَخَلَهُ عُثْمَانُ فَخَرَجَ إِلَيْنَا وَهُوَ مُتَغَيِّرٌ لَوْنُهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّهُمْ لَيَتَوَاعَدُونَنِي بِالْقَتْلِ آنِفًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قُلْنَا:‏‏‏‏ يَكْفِيكَهُمُ اللَّهُ يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ وَلِمَ يَقْتُلُونَنِي ؟ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ:‏‏‏‏ لَا يَحِلُّ دَمُ امْرِئٍ مُسْلِمٍ إِلَّا بِإِحْدَى ثَلَاثٍ:‏‏‏‏ كُفْرٌ بَعْدَ إِسْلَامٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَوْ زِنًا بَعْدَ إِحْصَانٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَوْ قَتْلُ نَفْسٍ بِغَيْرِ نَفْسٍ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَوَاللَّهِ مَا زَنَيْتُ فِي جَاهِلِيَّةٍ وَلَا فِي إِسْلَامٍ قَطُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَلَا أَحْبَبْتُ أَنَّ لِي بِدِينِي بَدَلًا مُنْذُ هَدَانِي اللَّهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَلَا قَتَلْتُ نَفْسًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَبِمَ يَقْتُلُونَنِي ؟ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ أَبُو دَاوُد:‏‏‏‏ عُثْمَانُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا تَرَكَا الْخَمْرَ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ.

Urdu Translation

ابوامامہ بن سہل کہتے ہیں کہ   ہم عثمان رضی اللہ عنہ کے ساتھ تھے، آپ گھر میں محصور تھے، گھر میں داخل ہونے کا ایک راستہ ایسا تھا کہ جو اس میں داخل ہو جاتا وہ باہر سطح زمین پر کھڑے لوگوں کی گفتگو سن سکتا تھا، عثمان اس میں داخل ہوئے اور ہمارے پاس لوٹے تو ان کا رنگ متغیر تھا، کہنے لگے: ان لوگوں نے ابھی ابھی مجھے قتل کرنے کی دھمکی دی ہے، تو ہم نے عرض کیا: امیر المؤمنین! آپ کی ان سے حفاظت کے لیے اللہ کافی ہے، اس پر انہوں نے کہا: آخر یہ مجھے کیوں قتل کرنا چاہتے ہیں؟ میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو فرماتے سنا ہے: تین باتوں کے بغیر کسی مسلمان شخص کا خون حلال نہیں: ایک یہ کہ اسلام لانے کے بعد وہ کفر کا ارتکاب کرے، دوسرے یہ کہ شادی شدہ ہو کر زنا کرے، اور تیسرے یہ کہ ناحق کسی کو قتل کر دے تو اللہ کی قسم! میں نے نہ تو جاہلیت میں، اور نہ اسلام لانے کے بعد کبھی زنا کیا، اور جب سے اللہ نے مجھے ہدایت بخشی ہے میں نے کبھی نہیں چاہا کہ میرا دین اس کے بجائے کوئی اور ہو، اور نہ ہی میں نے کسی کو قتل کیا ہے، تو آخر کس بنیاد پر مجھے یہ قتل کریں گے؟ ۔ ابوداؤد کہتے ہیں: عثمان اور ابوبکر رضی اللہ عنہما نے تو جاہلیت میں بھی شراب سے کنارہ کشی اختیار کر رکھی تھی۔

English Translation

Narrated Abu Umamah ibn Sahl: We were with Uthman when he was besieged in the house. There was an entrance to the house. He who entered it heard the speech of those who were in the Bilat. Uthman then entered it. He came out to us, looking pale. He said: They are threatening to kill me now. We said: Allah will be sufficient for you against them, Commander of the Faithful! He asked: Why kill me? I heard the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم say: It is not lawful to kill a man who is a Muslim except for one of the three reasons: Kufr (disbelief) after accepting Islam, fornication after marriage, or wrongfully killing someone, for which he may be killed. I swear by Allah, I have not committed fornication before or after the coming of Islam, nor did I ever want another religion for me instead of my religion since Allah gave guidance to me, nor have I killed anyone. So for what reason do you want to kill me? Abu Dawud said: Uthman and Abu Bakr (Allah be pleased with them) abandoned drinking wine in pre-Islamic times.
