حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الصَّبَّاحِ الْبَزَّازُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أخبرنا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي ثَوْرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ سِمَاكٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَمِيرَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ الْأَحْنَفِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ الْعَبَّاسِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ كُنْتُ فِي الْبَطْحَاءِ فِي عِصَابَةٍ فِيهِمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَمَرَّتْ بِهِمْ سَحَابَةٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَنَظَرَ إِلَيْهَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ مَا تُسَمُّونَ هَذِهِ ؟،‏‏‏‏ قَالُوا:‏‏‏‏ السَّحَابَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ وَالْمُزْنَ،‏‏‏‏ قَالُوا:‏‏‏‏ وَالْمُزْنَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ وَالْعَنَانَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالُوا:‏‏‏‏ وَالْعَنَانَ،‏‏‏‏ قَالَ أَبُو دَاوُد:‏‏‏‏ لَمْ أُتْقِنْ الْعَنَانَ جَيِّدًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ هَلْ تَدْرُونَ مَا بُعْدُ مَا بَيْنَ السَّمَاءِ وَالْأَرْضِ ؟ قَالُوا:‏‏‏‏ لَا نَدْرِي، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّ بُعْدَ مَا بَيْنَهُمَا:‏‏‏‏ إِمَّا وَاحِدَةٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَوِ اثْنَتَانِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَوْ ثَلَاثٌ وَسَبْعُونَ سَنَةً، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ السَّمَاءُ فَوْقَهَا كَذَلِكَ حَتَّى عَدَّ سَبْعَ سَمَاوَاتٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ فَوْقَ السَّابِعَةِ بَحْرٌ بَيْنَ أَسْفَلِهِ وَأَعْلَاهُ مِثْلُ مَا بَيْنَ سَمَاءٍ إِلَى سَمَاءٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ فَوْقَ ذَلِكَ ثَمَانِيَةُ أَوْعَالٍ بَيْنَ أَظْلَافِهِمْ وَرُكَبِهِمْ مِثْلُ مَا بَيْنَ سَمَاءٍ إِلَى سَمَاءٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ عَلَى ظُهُورِهِمُ الْعَرْشُ مَا بَيْنَ أَسْفَلِهِ وَأَعْلَاهُ مِثْلُ مَا بَيْنَ سَمَاءٍ إِلَى سَمَاءٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ اللَّهُ تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى فَوْقَ ذَلِكَ .

Urdu Translation

عباس بن عبدالمطلب رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ   میں بطحاء میں ایک جماعت کے ساتھ تھا، جس میں رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم بھی موجود تھے، اتنے میں بادل کا ایک ٹکڑا ان کے پاس سے گزرا تو آپ نے اس کی طرف دیکھ کر پوچھا: تم اسے کیا نام دیتے ہو؟ لوگوں نے عرض کیا: «سحاب» ( بادل ) ، آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: اور «مزن» بھی لوگوں نے کہا: ہاں «مزن» بھی، آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: اور «عنان» بھی لوگوں نے عرض کیا: اور «عنان» بھی، ( ابوداؤد کہتے ہیں: «عنان» کو میں اچھی طرح ضبط نہ کر سکا ) آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے پوچھا: کیا تمہیں معلوم ہے کہ آسمان اور زمین کے درمیان کتنی دوری ہے؟ لوگوں نے عرض کیا: ہمیں نہیں معلوم، آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ان دونوں کے درمیان اکہتر یا بہتر یا تہتر سال کی مسافت ہے، پھر اسی طرح اس کے اوپر آسمان ہے یہاں تک کہ آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے سات آسمان گنائے پھر ساتویں کے اوپر ایک سمندر ہے جس کی سطح اور تہہ میں اتنی دوری ہے جتنی کہ ایک آسمان اور دوسرے آسمان کے درمیان ہے، پھر اس کے اوپر آٹھ جنگلی بکرے ہیں جن کے کھروں اور گھٹنوں کے درمیان اتنی لمبائی ہے جتنی ایک آسمان سے دوسرے آسمان تک کی دوری ہے، پھر ان کی پشتوں پر عرش ہے، جس کے نچلے حصہ اور اوپری حصہ کے درمیان کی مسافت اتنی ہے جتنی ایک آسمان سے دوسرے آسمان کی، پھر اس کے اوپر اللہ تعالیٰ ہے ۔

English Translation

Narrated Al-Abbas ibn Abdul Muttalib: I was sitting in al-Batha with a company among whom the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم was sitting, when a cloud passed above them. The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم looked at it and said: What do you call this? They said: Sahab. He said: And muzn? They said: And muzn. He said: And anan? They said: And anan. Abu Dawud said: I am not quite confident about the word anan. He asked: Do you know the distance between Heaven and Earth? They replied: We do not know. He then said: The distance between them is seventy-one, seventy-two, or seventy-three years. The heaven which is above it is at a similar distance (going on till he counted seven heavens). Above the seventh heaven there is a sea, the distance between whose surface and bottom is like that between one heaven and the next. Above that there are eight mountain goats the distance between whose hoofs and haunches is like the distance between one heaven and the next. Then Allah, the Blessed and the Exalted, is above that.
