حَدَّثَنَا عِيسَى بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الرَّمْلِيُّ،‏‏‏‏ وَابْنُ عَوْفٍ،‏‏‏‏ وَهَذَا لَفْظُهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَا:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنَا الْفِرْيَابِيُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ سُفْيَانَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ ثَوْرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ رَاشِدِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏يَقُولُ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّكَ إِنِ اتَّبَعْتَ عَوْرَاتِ النَّاسِ أَفْسَدْتَهُمْ أَوْ كِدْتَ أَنْ تُفْسِدَهُمْ ،‏‏‏‏ فَقَالَ أَبُو الدَّرْدَاءِ كَلِمَةٌ سَمِعَهَا مُعَاوِيَةُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ نَفَعَهُ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى بِهَا.

Urdu Translation

معاویہ رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ   میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو فرماتے ہوئے سنا: اگر تم لوگوں کی پوشیدہ باتوں کے پیچھے پڑو گے، تو تم ان میں بگاڑ پیدا کر دو گے، یا قریب ہے کہ ان میں اور بگاڑ پیدا کر دو ۱؎۔ ابو الدرداء کہتے ہیں: یہ وہ کلمہ ہے جسے معاویہ نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے سنا ہے اور اللہ نے انہیں اس سے فائدہ پہنچایا ہے۔

English Translation

Narrated Muawiyah: I heard the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم say: If you search for the faults of the people, you will corrupt them, or will nearly corrupt them. Abud Darda said: These are the words which Muawiyah himself from the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم, and Allah benefited him by them.
