حَدَّثَنَا مُسَدَّدٌ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَارِثِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ مُوسَى بْنِ سَالِمٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ دَخَلْتُ عَلَى ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ فِي شَبَابٍ مِنْ بَنِي هَاشِمٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقُلْنَا لِشَابٍّ مِنَّا:‏‏‏‏ سَلْ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ أَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقْرَأُ فِي الظُّهْرِ وَالْعَصْرِ ؟ فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ لَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏لَا. فَقِيلَ لَهُ:‏‏‏‏ فَلَعَلَّهُ كَانَ يَقْرَأُ فِي نَفْسِهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ خَمْشًا هَذِهِ شَرٌّ مِنَ الْأُولَى كَانَ عَبْدًا مَأْمُورًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏بَلَّغَ مَا أُرْسِلَ بِهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَمَا اخْتَصَّنَا دُونَ النَّاسِ بِشَيْءٍ إِلَّا بِثَلَاثِ خِصَالٍ:‏‏‏‏ أَمَرَنَا أَنْ نُسْبِغَ الْوُضُوءَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَأَنْ لَا نَأْكُلَ الصَّدَقَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَأَنْ لَا نُنْزِيَ الْحِمَارَ عَلَى الْفَرَسِ .

Urdu Translation

عبداللہ بن عبیداللہ کہتے ہیں کہ   میں بنی ہاشم کے کچھ نوجوانوں کے ہمراہ عبداللہ بن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما کی خدمت میں حاضر ہوا تو ہم نے اپنے میں سے ایک نوجوان سے کہا: تم ابن عباس سے پوچھو کہ کیا رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ظہر اور عصر میں قرآت کرتے تھے؟ ابن عباس نے کہا: نہیں، نہیں، تو ان سے کہا گیا: شاید آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم اپنے جی میں قرآت کرتے رہے ہوں، اس پر ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما نے کہا: اللہ تمہارے چہرے یا چمڑے میں خراش کرے! یہ پہلی سے بھی بری ہے ۱؎، آپ ایک مامور ( حکم کے پابند ) بندے تھے، آپ کو جو حکم ملتا وہی لوگوں کو پہنچاتے، آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ہم ( بنی ہاشم ) کو کوئی مخصوص حکم نہیں دیا سوائے تین باتوں کے: ایک یہ کہ ہم کامل وضو کریں دوسرے یہ کہ صدقہ نہ کھائیں، تیسرے یہ کہ گدھے کو گھوڑی پر نہ چڑھائیں۔

English Translation

Narrated Abdullah ibn Abbas: Abdullah ibn Ubaydullah said: I went to Ibn Abbas accompanying some youths of Banu Hashim. We said to one of them: Ask Ibn Abbas: Did the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم recite (the Quran) in the noon and afternoon prayers? He replied: No. People said to him: Perhaps he might recite the Quran quietly. He said: May your face be scratched (a kind of curse)! This (statement) is worse than the former. He was only a servant (of Allah) receiving Commands from Him. He preached (the divine) message which he brought with him. He did not command anything to us (Banu Hashim) specially excluding other people except three points: he commanded us to perform ablution perfectly, and not to accept charity (sadaqah) and not to make pairing of donkey with horse.
