Ingredients
  1. 1 kg moong dal (whole)
  2. 2 tblsps oil
  3. 1 cup water
  4. 1/4 tsp mustard seeds
  5. ¼ tsp asafetida
  6. salt to taste
  7. ¼ tsp soda bicarbonate
  8. ¼ tsp turmeric
  9. ½ tsp red chilli powder
Method
  • Soak dal in water for 6 to 8 hours. Drain, and tie securely in a piece of cloth. Place in a vessel and cover tightly. Set aside for 8 to 10 hours, allowing the dal to sprout.
  • Heat oil in a vessel, throw in the mustard seed, and when they begin to crackle, put in the asafoetida and the sprouted moong. Add half a cup of water, salt, a pinch of soda bicarbonate, turmeric and chili powder. Allow to cook for half an hour, till tender. Serve hot.
