6 Nov – The Blackest Day

(M Rashid Tabassum, )

The day of 6th November has great importance for Muslims of Jammu-Kashmir and Pakistan. The day is observed every year in the memorization of those Muslims who were martyred during migration to Pakistan. Seminars, conferences, and rallies are organized to pay rich tributes to martyrs of the Jammu massacre. On 6th of November, over 200,000 Muslims were massacred deceptively. Dogra forces and Hindus rioters crossed all the limits of tyranny and barbarism. They changed the demographical status of Jammu-Kashmir.

During these riots, Muslim majority areas population was eliminated. Their houses were set on fire. Muslim Women especially teenager girls were ravished. In 1947, the Muslim population was 80 percent. After riots, Muslims were a minority in Jammu. 123 villages of Jammu where Muslims were in majority were completely depopulated. In Kathua District, half of the Muslim population was lost. In Ramnagar, thousands of Gujars were martyred. As well as, Village Raipur was completely burnt out.

Rising more, the State administration had demobilized a large number of Muslim soldiers which were on duty in the state army. Muslim police officers had also been sent home. In the Jammu city, weapons of Muslim military had been taken and the Jammu cantonment Muslim Brigadier was replaced with Hindu Dogra officer. Arms were distributed among Sikhs and Hindus under organized planning. The Muslims which tried to seek refuge in state departments like police stations and Deputy Commissioners’ offices were handed over to Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

Moreover, the massacre of Muslims and burning of their houses in Jammu villages started from October 1947. Dogra soldiers and rioters killed Muslim men and abducted women. On 20th of October, 14,000 Muslims were martyred at Akhnoor. As well as, all refugees in Sardar Akram’s house were cruelly murdered. Meanwhile, Maharaja Patiala Yadavindra Singh sent additional army brigade to Jammu which also participated in Muslims massacre. Meanwhile, Muslims were martyred from 4 to 7 November 1947. The government asked Muslims to reach Police Station in Jammu on 4th of November so that they would be sent to Pakistan. On 4th November, a Muslim convoy consisting of 4000 people left for Pakistan. At Mava, armed persons attacked the convoy and killed whole Muslims. On Muslims were loaded in 70 buses. At Satwaari, the caravan was attacked by Dogra soldiers. They snatched money and other valuable items first. Then, the massacre of Muslims started. Muslims were butchered like chickens.

Writing more, British daily The Times, London wrote: “2,37,000 Muslims were systematically exterminated – unless they escaped to Pakistan along the border – by the forces of the Dogra State headed by the Maharaja in person and aided by Hindus and Sikhs. This happened in October 1947, five days before the Pathan invasion and nine days before the Maharaja’s accession to India.” According to Statesman Editor Ian Stephen wrote in his book: “Till the end of autumn 1947, more than 2 lakh Muslims were murdered in one go. (Horned Moon)”

Concluding more, the solution of Jammu-Kashmir is essential for peace in the region. India is the biggest hurdle in regional peace. UN Security Council passed many resolutions for the solution of the issue but India is not ready to give self-determination right to Muslims of Jammu-Kashmir. UN report exposes Indian atrocities in Jammu-Kashmir. Government of Pakistan should expose Indian state terrorism at International forums.
