Corona Diaries

(Parma Abbas, )

By now everyone knows what Covid 19 is and how dangerous it is but what is less commonly known is that there are four types of corona viruses and when this epidemic started we didn’t have a vaccine for even a single one. Organizations and individuals have now started creating vaccines however testing them, having them approved, mass producing them and having them sent to all those who are afflicted can still take a very long time, realistically speaking. We can currently see first world countries such as America, China, Italy and Spain struggling and in times like these it forces one to ponder over what will happen to third world countries. This is not an easy time for anyone thus it is important that we work together to overcome this problem that all of us, collectively, face.

Our main responsibility, right now, is to try and curb the spread of this virus. We can do this in two simple ways: firstly, by not passing it on if we already have it; and, secondly, by not catching it from someone else. The easiest and most efficient way of doing this is by staying home however this in itself raises multiple issues.

A majority of the lower middle class and working class, which is a huge proportion of the overall population, works on a daily wage rate and they no longer have any sort of financial stability. Even those in the upper middle class and upper class struggle with job security as stock markets around the globe plummet. Keeping this in mind, everyone should try to give back to the community as much as they can and try not to create a sense of panic by spreading false information which could eventually result in people hoarding essential goods thus creating a shortage.

Secondly, people who are now forced to stay at home may have previously used a walk in the park, an hour at the gym or a morning run as an outlet for their stress or whatever problem they face however this can no longer be done so anxiety and irritation levels increase. People also struggle with mental health issues and this affects them adversely since being alone with their thoughts may not be pleasant for everyone. For this reason and out of common courtesy, everyone should try to be kind to those that surround you. This is a hard time for everyone and the least we can do is try to be better people.

Personally, I am using this abundance of time to connect with my self, my families, my friends, and my larger community. We all are glued to our phones and we can use this in a positive manner to spread love within our circles. In the past we would use a majority of our time to complain about everything we would do if we had free time and now that we do, it’s time to actually be productive however we should also ensure that no matter what it is that we do, we do it from the safety of your houses so that everyone stays safe. The faster we adhere to this, the faster all of this will be over!
