Causes of brain drain in Pakistan
(Tabinda Hussain, KARACHI)
There are multiple causes of brain drain in Pakistan. Brain drain means migration of trained and highly professionals from one country to another. Unemployment, corrupt political system, lack of superior opportunities, instability of government and lack of higher educational institution are the reasons which results in brain drain in Pakistan.
One of the main reason of brain drain in Pakistan is unemployment. Highly professional scholars and trained people are not able to find suitable job or sometimes the pay is too less which is not in proportion to their hard work which discourages the motivation of highly qualified people while on the other hand foreign countries provides the complete desirable plans for highly professionals which attracts Pakistani trained people and it causes brain drain.
Corrupt political system is another important cause of brain drain in Pakistan. Government officials take money from non qualified people and give them high post jobs while on the other side people having qualification in real are discarded. This system hits hardly to the mind of trained people and urges them to go out of the country and this results in brain drain.
Another cause which results in brain drain in Pakistan is lack of superior opportunities. In Pakistan there are not enough job opportunities present. Number of skilled labor is increasing day by day but industrialization and technological advancement is very slow and not able to meet the increasing number of professionals but in other developed countries opportunities for trained people are at its peak which causes brain drain in Pakistan and people migrate for getting superior opportunities.
Instability of government is another factor which causes brain drain in Pakistan. There are different conflicts among political parties for their own interests due to which progress of country in advanced fields stops. This creates hurdles in establishment of industrial units due to which trained people suffer a lot because of bad law and order situation in Pakistan. In developed countries the government is stabilized and best approach is used for conflict management which results in brain drain in Pakistan.
Lack of higher educational institutions in Pakistan also contributes in brain drain in Pakistan. There are only few quality institutions available which are insufficient to educate the large number of students and other institutions are too much back warded and not quality education is given to students. For achieving specialized and modern education students go abroad and complete their education and easily find suitable jobs. This causes brain drain in Pakistan.
Hence because of unemployment, lack of superior opportunities, instability of government and lack of higher educational institutions brain drain is happening in Pakistan which is not controlled by government and migration of trained people is increasing. Proper initiatives must be taken to overcome this issue as soon as possible.
