I'm writing to bring to your attention an issue that should be of the highest concern of the residents of Karachi right now. Robberies are occurring more often, and the tragic value of human life has produced a climate of fear and unease in our great city. The difficulties that the people are experiencing are also being exacerbated by the increasing price of the sacrificial animals this Eid-ul-Adha, as well as by the mandi's distant location.
In Karachi, robberies and thefts have sadly increased in frequency, and it is disheartening to see the lives of the residents being taken for granted. Every day, we hear horrible stories of innocent people who have been victimized by these violent crimes. It is time for our law enforcement authorities to act proactively to improve neighborhood security and reestablish peace. Every area of the city must have a noticeable and efficient police presence to ensure rapid responses to distress calls and prompt action against criminals.
Additionally, as Eid-ul-Adha just around the corner, people are being overwhelmed by the rising price of sacrificed animals. The cattle markets are virtually filled, but because the sacrificed animals are so expensive, the purchasers are walking away empty-handed. According to a resident, animal costs are currently exceedingly skyrocketing and out of the grasp of the average person. Due to the absence of any price regulation mechanisms implemented by the administration, the majority of sellers of sacrificed animals set their prices extremely high. The majority of Karachi's residents are trying to make ends meet, and the high costs of buying animals for religious sacrifice are causing a heavy financial burden on them. This load is made much greater by the mandi's awkward position, which is far from residential neighborhoods. In addition to creating logistical difficulties for residents, this also raises the expense of transportation, making it much more challenging for them to afford sacrificed animals.
In light of these pressing issues, I urge the relevant authorities to take immediate action. Together, the law enforcement and government must develop additional strong safety measures throughout the city. Increased presence of police, security camera installation in strategic locations, and community awareness campaigns may drastically reduce criminal activity and improve neighborhood safety.
Moreover, I implore the relevant authorities to think about constructing temporary or decentralized mandis in different parts of Karachi. Residents would have better access to sacrificed animals as a result, and the expense of transportation would also be lessened. We can ensure that the spirit of Eid-ul-Adha is kept and the religious requirements are met without imposing unnecessary burdens by bringing the mandi closer to the individuals.
It is high time to provide Karachi's residents the protection they deserve and the resources for celebrating religious festivals without being burdened by excessive costs.
Sarina Jabeen,
Karachi.
