Is it time to change T20I openers?
(Nigah Muhammad, Karachi)
Pakistan men’s cricket team will be facing off New Zealand from 12th January to 21st January in a five-match series in four different venues, Just in, Wahab Riaz, a chief selector of Pakistan has announced 17th member squads for the T20I series against black cap.
In the squad, there are five open batters, which are Babar Azam, Muhammad Rizwan, Saim Ayub, Fakhar Zaman, Sahaibzada Farhan, but question is still here, Can newly appointed captain Shaheen Shah Afridi change the openers? Or he will be going with the follow.
As we all know that Muhammad Rizwan and Babar Azam are opening for Pakistan more than three or four years and they both were amazing in last two T20 world cup as well, but critics thinks their strike rate are not as good as it would be, and they both playing some time make record for themselves but if it is correct so how could Pakistan played a final and semi-final in the last two T20 world cup in the 2021 and 2022?
Yes, it is correct that their strike rate are not up to the mark as modern day cricket needs back to back boundaries in power play and batter have to be power hitter as well, which people thinks they are lacking so It’s a best time to try Fakhar Zaman, Saim Ayub and Sahibzada Farhan as an opener for New Zealand’s T20I Series, these three are capable of hitting big sixes and can destroyed any bowling line in any condition.
Pakistani fans desperately want to see Saim Ayub and Fakhar Zaman as an opener for Pakistan but let's see if Captain Shaheen or Management under Muhammad Hafeez will do this or not, time will tell all the fans everything.
