Srinagar's Grenade Explosion Claims Life of Devoted Parent, Leaving Community in Mourning
NAIDKHAL, SUMBAL - The tranquil streets of Naidkhai, Sumbal, in northern Bandipora, were shattered by anguished cries as the ambulance carrying Abida Kounsar's mortal remains arrived. The 45-year-old mother of three succumbed to injuries sustained in the November 3 grenade explosion at Srinagar's TRC Sunday Market.
As Abida's body was laid to rest, the community came together to mourn the loss of a cherished member. Her brother, Waseem Raja, struggled to contain his emotions, "She's a martyr, a victim of senseless violence. Her sacrifice will not be forgotten."
Abida's tragic fate has left her three minor children - Mohammad Hafi, Zuhair Zubair, and Aubihiyah Zubair - without a loving parent. Zuhair, just 10 years old, poignantly shared, "Mumma wanted to buy me a winter jacket... now she's gone."
The local community is reeling in shock, expressing outrage and fear. "Kashmiris are not safe," lamented Kulsuma, a neighbor. "How long will we lose our loved ones to bullets and grenades?" Aamina Begum, another local resident, anxiously asked, "Who will care for Abida's children now?"
Waseem Raja appealed to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to ensure the children's rehabilitation and take decisive action to prevent further bloodshed. The community echoed his sentiments, demanding an end to the relentless violence.
As hundreds bid farewell to Abida, the air was heavy with grief. Women wailed, their tears and sobs filling the air, mourning the loss of a devoted mother and the fragility of life in Kashmir.
A MOTHER'S LEGACY LOST TO VIOLENCE

The people of Kashmir demand justice and peace. How many more lives will be lost before the bloodshed ends?
