It is first time introduced in
Pakistan at Volumatrix Group Pvt. Ltd platform.
The proliferation of mobile computing devices increases the chance of hackers
stealing the device to gain access to sensitive data and personal information.
Hackers can easily pry open ordinary handset level passwords. Cell Sniper, a
Symbian based mobile security application developed by Network Security Services
(NSS) offers advanced level of protection for GSM phones. It protects the data,
and allows locking and tracing the stolen device.
Lost your cellphone? There’s little to worry now with the latest GSM technology
offering CellSniper protecting your personal data on the phone and preventing
misuse of data in the lost handset.
Features in the mobile security application developed Network Security Solutions
(NSS) include lock, trace, wipe, remote call-back and synchronized data backup
solution, among others.
Once the application is installed on the cellphone, you can set up 10 mobile
phone numbers of your family/ friends to whom CellSniper will send a message
alert in the event of loss of your phone.
Should you lose your phone, it sends a ‘lost phone’, alert messages to the 10
numbers already stored, as soon as the handsets SIM card is replaced.
These SMS alerts come from the mobile phone number of the new user and also
recover the IMEI number which is unique to each phone. The application also
reveals the GPS location of the stolen phone.
If GPS is not supported in the phone, then GPRS is used to get the location
information of the phone. If both are not available, then a normal message alert
is sent. The application also allows you to lock your phone every time the
mobile is restarted.
Thus, if the phone has CellSniper and lock on restart has been enabled, the new
user will find the mobile locked and unusable, while friends will receive alerts
from the new users numbers and will be able to inform you about the same.
Additional facilities include deletion of contacts, inbox, outbox, MMS, video
and image files on the lost handset. This can be done from any cellphone by
sending an SMS (in a pre-defined format).
Once the alert messages are received and the new number operating the lost
handset is known, you need to send an SMS the ‘wipe string’, to delete any
personal information.
The application can also initiate a remote call back from the lost handset by
sending a call-back message in a predetermined format from any phone. Priced at
Rs399, including tax, the product will be available in a few days across
Pakistan in mobile and computer market as well.
