Leadership is defined as ‘the
process in which an individual influences the group of individuals to attain a
common goal’. The goal is attained by mutual cooperation and cohesive behavior.
A leader infuses a sense of positively and directs others to reach the specified
goal.
When we think of leader and leadership a brainstorming idea comes to mind that a
person who leads or commands a group, organization of the country and leadership
is a basic duties of a leader that he should perform. But the question arises in
the people’s mind from where these leaders comes and who are these people.
Leadership is about influencing the people to follow you toward achieving a
certain goal. The influencing skill is the major factor, which help align people
to clear the vision of the leader. This influence may be a natural phenomena
based on the leader’s personality and character. But the basic requirement for
influencing people to follow that is “TRUST”. Trust is never built on what a
leader say but what leader do and what you are. Thus a noticeable personality is
definitely on diffraction for the followers.
Leadership plays a crucial role in the development of any organization and
countries, they create vision, passion that become example for many others to
follow. If leadership is not based on merit, character and competence. Leaders
are always going to be insecure. always hiding behind fancy words and to ever
seeking safe place in their position and same. Leadership is not just about
commanding people, but it is also about following them, and listening to them.
One does not always have to be a commander, a chief or a boss to be a great
leader. A great leader can also be one who has total command and control over
his life, his words, his deeds and actions, and who helps others help
themselves. There are lots of great qualities in a leader that you can choose
from and elaborate on them. 10 great leadership qualities that most people agree
should be present in a leader are: Empathy, dedication, sincerity, passionate
about his beliefs, puts people’s interests above his own, responsibility and
ownership, self motivated, ability to influence, ability to lead, ability to
teach.
An effective leader must have character, competence, compassion, and courage.
These characteristics are the components of ones personality that gives them the
capability to successfully lead a group of people in the right direction.
Character allows you to make the right choices. Competence is the ability to
know your job and what needs to be done. Compassion is a fairness and respect
for co-workers and followers. And lastly, courage is both mental and physical
strength to do what is right even though it may be the hardest. These
characteristics are what makes a leader worth following and worthy of a
leadership position. “Those who stand for nothing, fall for anything”, and a
leader with these traits knows what to stand for (Alexander Hamilton).
Pakistan politics has become a case study of this category. A side Islam a great
leader Quaid -e- Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah, there has not been a single leader in
the country who could inspire trust, love and respect in the masses: they all
come with big claims of creating a historic revolution and leave with identical
bitter end to their tenures.
