The rate with which the
information travels through electronic media is a major factor which has
contributed in making this world into a global village. Media in Pakistan is
still in its infant stage and facing many teething problems, it forced people to
reckon with in a short duration. Nowadays news is presented sensationally and
marketed in a way that a common man ends up believing it...
The appearance of media today is different than what it was a decade ago. From
one state-owned channel and a few newspapers until 2001, there has been a
significant growth in both print and electronic media. There's an increase in
both TV channels and newspapers, with businessmen wanting a piece of the pie in
terms of ownership. The public is being beckoned in different directions owing
to varying policies followed by each medium. The result is often confusion
instead of building an unbiased, objective opinion on issues.
A Comparative analysis of media and its Laws in Pakistan address the question of
social responsibility of media. the choice of content and analysis is poor in
the electronic media... Its great example can be seen in recent elections!
Meanwhile, social media has emerged as a strong forum for sharing of information
and ideas. In the recent past, it has been witnessed that news was first broken
on social media before being taken up by "mainstream media". This just goes to
show how influential it could be..
Electronic Media or for that matter print media is not bane by itself. The
effect lies in the way it is used. If used to exploit it can result in harm and
destruction of highest magnitude. If used to inform and spread knowledge without
bias it can immensely help in building a nation.
This puts an tedious responsibility on those who are associated with electronic
media. The responsibility of media; if used judiciously this media is
compassionate and can play a significant role in nation building.....This utter
control of media has to be restricted and should not be exercised if it hurts
someone else’s freedom.
In conclusion it can be safely deduced that the Electronic Media instead of
helping resolution of National Issues is causing insoluble hurdles.
