The Sindh government has
decided to ban instant messaging and voice-over-Internet Protocol (VoIP) clients
Skype, Viber and other communication networks, possibly including Tango and
WhatsApp, for three months in the province for security reasons.Video sharing
web site Youtube is already ban in Pakistan since 17 September 2012.According to
freedom House, an independent watchdog organization,Pakistan is among the last
ten countries of enemy of internet.By taking such steps pakistan is following
the footsteps of saudi arabia where Vibor is banned.Pakistani authorites are
doing their best to send pakistani 40 million internet users back to stone age
where there was no internet at all.It will be better for PTA Pakistan
Telecommunication Authority to open a wall garden such as in the case of North
Korea which is known as Kwangmyong.Kwangmyong was opened in 2000 by north Korean
government to isolate its citizen from rest of the world in this Global world.
Kwangmyong is only use for domestic use in North Korea.It is not directly
connected to internet and hence prevent contact of domestic users accessing
foreign source of information .It can be accessed by web browsers, incorporates
email services, news groups, and an internal web search engine.In a country
where only a small number of government-authorized persons are allowed to use
the global Internet it is a treasure to common people and also it is free of
cost too.It is accessible from within North Korea's major cities, counties, as
well as universities and major industrial and commercial organizations.Its main
function is to prevent north Korean from access to information .The main
contents of Kwangmyong are:
Information such as political, economic, scientific, cultural and other fields
of knowledge.
Domestic news service.
A mailing service similar in function to that of e-mail.
University scientific research areas of academic and scholarly works devoted to
the network through web-based academic exchanges and information sharing.
Censored websites from the Internet.
An electronic library
Cuba and Myanmar is also using the same Network and Iran has been reported as
having future plans to implement such a network.And due to ongoing restrictions
of Pakistani authorities on banning internet contents it is Expected Pakistan
will be develop a national internet and join these countries very soon.
