Mujtaba Akhir Zamani by Sultan Mohammad Najib-ur-Rehman

(Abdur Rehman, Lahore)

'''MUJTABA AKHIR ZAMANI''' (مجتبیٰ آخر زمانی ) is an Urdu book written by the well-acclaimed writer and Saint Hazrat Sakhi Sultan Mohammad Najib-ur-Rehman. ''Mujtaba'' (مجتبیٰ ) literally means “the chosen one”, ''Akhir'' (آخر) refers to “the last” whereas ''Zamani'' (زمانی) indicates “era”. Hence, Mujtaba Akhir Zamani means “the chosen one of the last era”. In Risala Roohi Sharif, the Sufi saint, Sultan Bahoo says, “I have been ordered and given powers by Hazrat Mohammad Sall’Allahu Alayhi Wa’alihi Wasallam to give spiritual guidance to everyone whether Muslim or non-Muslim, alive or dead and lead them all to Allah till the doomsday. Hazrat Mohammad Sall’Allahu Alayhi Wa’alihi Wasallam has granted me the titles 'Mujtaba Akhir Zamani' and 'Mustafa Sani'."

Available in most bookstores of Pakistan, the book is even available as an e-book and can be downloaded for free. The book contains 6 chapters and has 472 pages of text. Its first edition was originally published in January 2013 by Sultan-ul-Faqr Publications Regd., Lahore Pakistan.

Mujtaba Akhir Zamani is a detailed hagiography of the spiritual guides of Sarwari Qadri Order. The book starts with the life history of the founder of the Sarwari Qadri Order, SULTAN-UL-ARIFEEN HAZRAT SAKHI SULTAN BAHOO REHMAT-UL-ALLAH ALAYH. Sultan ul Arifeen Hazrat Sakhi Sultan Bahoo (R.A.) is popular among saints, Sufi orders, spiritual chains and even Sufi poets and even simple followers or readers of Tasawwuf. Although his roots belong to the Subcontinent, Sultan Bahoo (R.A.) is popular worldwide due to his inclusion in so many genres of religion, spiritual chains, poetry and even music. His Punjabi poetry has a popular appeal and earned him lasting fame. His Kalam/couplets known as Abyat are sung in many genres of Sufi music by well known singers both folk and pop. The Punjab region became predominantly Muslim due to such missionary Sufi saints whose shrines and dargahs dot the landscape of Punjab. He is the one who set the foundation of Sarwari Qadri Order which connects to Hazrat Shaikh Abdul Qadir Jilani (R.A.) and hence to Hazrat Mohammad (pbuh). He is the 25th Shaikh of the Sarwari Qadri Order.
Then the rest of the 5 chapters are divided amongst the later Saints of the Sarwari Qadri Order:

“SULTAN-UL-TARIKEEN HAZRAT SAKHI SULTAN SYED MOHAMMAD ABDULLAH SHAH MADNI JILANI REHMAT-UL-ALLAH ALAYH”

He migrated to Pakistan (then India) at the orders of the Holy Prophet (pbuh) and got the trust of Allah from Sultan Bahoo. He is the 26th Shaikh of the Sarwari Qadri Order Then he got settled in Ahmedpur Sharqiah on 6 May 1826 (29th Ramadan 1241 Hijri) and spread the word of Allah among common Muslims. He always kept himself away from the affairs of the state, court and fame. Neither did he go to the gathering of any Nawab nor to any Sardar. He always stayed at his Khanqah and when the True Seekers of Allah came to him, he blessed them with spiritual guidance and the bounty of Allah cleansing their Nafs and purifying their heart. He died on 20 April 1860 (29th Ramadan 1276 Hijri). His shrine is in Ahmedpur Sharqiah.

The book takes the approach of Tasawwuf i.e. a mystical dimension of Islam as the book is about those saints whose ancestry leads up to Sultan-ul-Arifeen Hazrat Sakhi Sultan Bahoo and goes up to Shaikh Abdul Qadir Jilani and eventually Hazrat Ali Ibn Abi Talib and his cousin and Islamic prophet Hazrat Mohammad Sall’Allahu Alayhi Wa’alihi Wasallam. The spiritual guides of the Sarwari Qadri Order have been written about in great detail in the chronological order from the earliest to the recent. The Sarwari Qadri Order is an off-shoot of the Qadri or Qadriyya Order which belongs to Ghaus-ul-Azam Shaikh Abdul Qadir Jilani Razi Allahu Ta’ala Anhu. With reference to the Sarwari Qadri way, he says: “An egg (disciple) of mine is equal to thousand birds of others and remains unmatched.” Hence, to discover the Truth behind Sarwari Qadri and te reality of the true spiritual and genealogical lineage, it is important for one to get hands on this book.

In this day and age, where there is a lack of historical record, the need for such books is necessary to acknowledge oneself about the facts of the previous eras. Also, to counter the possible differences within our mind about the Sufi saints and their life history, this book is an asset. Each detail and misconceptions have also been clarified openly.

Sultan Mohammad Najib-ur-Rehman is a well-known contemporary Sufi author of the present age and the Spiritual Guide of the Sarwari Qadri Order. He is the 31stShaikh of the Sarwari Qadri Order. Since 14th of August 2005, he has made great efforts and taken revolutionary steps to spread the teachings of the spiritual guides of the Sarwari Qadri Order upon the entire Ummah. Soon, he realized that the teachings of Sultan-ul-Arifeen Hazrat Sakhi Sultan Bahoo need to be spread among the masses and transmitted specially to the new generation in a language understood internationally. Hence, he took on himself the responsibility to translate, republish and recompile Sultan Bahoo's books as well as those related to his teachings of Faqr.
