Pakistani television industry
is far closer to reality. It is full of talented people and their efforts
created masterpieces. Auspiciously our dramas centre on issues such as domestic
violence, poverty, deception, greed, life of orphans and marital conflicts. It’s
a blessing that all touches the hearts of everyone.
In this article I am going to highlight that how swiftly the issues in our
dramas altered. Channels are showing similar drama pattern such as a man who is
married, having an affair or a wife involved in another man and ending up with
divorce. There is nothing more except affairs, divorce, unreasonable love&
vulgarity. It is obliterating the people of our society. As we believe that
drama is a mirror, a sharp reflection of the society.
The degeneration rings a bell of strong female roles we used to have. Memorize
Shahnaz of Alpha Bravo Charlie; she chose Gul Sher over his stronger friends and
his death led her to a profound road of self-discovery, instead of marrying one
of the other friends. Zara of Tanhaiyan, crooked an entrepreneur after her
parents death and took care of her sister without looking for any fancy
shortcuts.
The character of Nazli in Dhuwan took Vengeance of her lover’s death
independently, instead of brooding in the helpless.
There were dramas that showed that how women were supposed to empowering.
Dramas are not only about "reflecting" what is there in the society, but also
helps in changing the mindset of society altogether. In past, there was a great
effort done by Pakistani dramas to change the typical mindset as well as prop up
positive impact. However, with the passage of time, the same dramas have turned
their focus towards stories that talk about women as feeble and weak.
In this modern age, where women and men are considered like two wheels of the
same cart, Pakistani writers need to work towards strengthening the characters
and roles of women as individuals. Drama may open a personal gate to forbidden
thought and have a profound effect and can change people’s behavior by giving
broken insights into the understanding of various characters. They influence
people’s behavior and exploit the understanding of humans and human
relationships, as they cover the complete range of character types and
behaviors.
