Followers of personalities rather than the institutions

(Naeem Memon, )

We are the kind of people who worship personalities excessively. Most of us believe that personality or individual will rescue the system or institution rather than fortifying the institutions by executing the laws and holding the power of the personalities at bay.Every Minister, irrespective of any Party when comes into the power keep harping on the same cliché, ‘Pakistan is still passing through difficult timesand country is still in state of war’ and spends his tenure praising his leaders and leadership unconditionally whether there is a great uproar of total collapse of all state institutions as a result of decades of very poor decisions.

And, today, afterhaving faced unimaginable and irreparablelosses, most importantly, the blood-bath of innocent kids and thereafter having observed the most belligerent and combative measures taken by General RaheelShareef across the Pakistan even in Afghanistan made people believe that he was the personality had badly been looked forward so long, who is capable of steering the crises-ridden nation out of catastrophically unstable situation; so, most probably everyone longs his extension for next five years at least, in this critical and alarming situation of our country where corruption and terrorism are on peak and people from all sphere need him desperately to grow Pakistan peaceful and prosper state. Admittedly,General Raheel as the chief commander has been discharging a marvelous job and his performance speaks through results rather than verbose. He is sincere, dedicated, energetic, good decision maker andbrave soldier and every politician in Pakistan is miles behind from his high caliber. Pakistan, surely, is on the right path leading to peace and progress under his guidance and supervision. He has the courage to eradicate all corrupt politicians and weed out terrorists; it is for the reason, leaders like AsifZardari, topped the list of the most corrupt politician in Pakistan like to see GeneralRaheel Sharif go out of the sight as soon as possible.

Despite all these facts, Gen. Raheel Sharif should be retired at the completion of his tenure and we should stop worshiping people. Instead, system should be beefed up. Unfortunatelywe tend to pay enormous respect and importance to the personalities while forgetting that our action and support is hollowing the objective of that institution. , we pin our hopes and expectations on personalities and start believing on conceptions then realities. The nation is being dragged by few leaders on the name of true democracy. People who are the soul of these institutions have been leftstranded to suffer then why to depend on merely handful individuals and what isthe most imperative thing is to immediately launch a serious effort to build up viable institutions that will steadily diminish the trend of extension of personalities to lead the Nation. On the other hand there are so many in-line commanders would have been same enthusiasm, caliber and sincerity to eradicate extremism and terrorism. The nation must clean off this misconception thatArmy is barren or something like this rather it is capable of churning out brilliant commanders. Besides that, an extension demoralizes the rank and file as others are deprived of the opportunity to lead. Didextension seekers like Ayub, Yahaya, Zia, Mushraf and Kayani not deprived their juniors of the opportunity to lead which they deserved.

The decision of General RaheelShareef clearly shows that he is an upright man and does not look for his own interest and such a positive and mature response by army leadership distinctly shows maturity among army circles, because in world public institute damaged by extension of heads, extension tramples the incoming talent and prevail the buttering culture within institute. A positive man is always positive either in army dress or civilian dress. So it is good decision by general Raheel which shows his loyalty with his profession, country and open mind for incoming junior generals and all other power-hungry politicians to express their abilities, also discourage the lust for power.Let’s get out of paranoia of personalities and try to strengthen the institutions.
