Soldier
(Hafiza Noor Ul Ain, Lahore)
Soldier
Sunlight sparkled on smooth
sand and his heavy boots threatened to slip off it. Training kept him steady.
Carrying the weight of a nation of 200 million desolate yet passionate people on
your shoulders is not an easy burden to bear. He did it with dazzling grace.
There was a man visible through the electrified, barbed wire. His enemy.
He recalled the way his family had sent him off to the border; eyes gleaming
with pride.
“I would do anything for the sun to keep shining on my free land,” thought the
soldier on the other side of the fence.
