حَدَّثَنَا مَحْمُودُ بْنُ غَيْلَانَ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو دَاوُدَ، أَخْبَرَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ عُثْمَانَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مَوْهَبٍ، قَال:‏‏‏‏ سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ يُحَدِّثُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِيهِ، أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أُتِيَ بِرَجُلٍ لِيُصَلِّيَ عَلَيْهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ صَلُّوا عَلَى صَاحِبِكُمْ فَإِنَّ عَلَيْهِ دَيْنًا ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ أَبُو قَتَادَةَ:‏‏‏‏ هُوَ عَلَيَّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ بِالْوَفَاءِ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ بِالْوَفَاءِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَصَلَّى عَلَيْهِ. قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ وَفِي الْبَاب، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ جَابِرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَسَلَمَةَ بْنِ الْأَكْوَعِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَأَسْمَاءَ بِنْتِ يَزِيدَ. قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ حَدِيثُ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ.

Urdu Translation

ابوقتادہ رضی الله عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ   نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے پاس ایک شخص لایا گیا تاکہ آپ اس کی نماز جنازہ پڑھائیں تو آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”تم اپنے ساتھی کی نماز پڑھ لو کیونکہ اس پر قرض ہے“۔ ( میں نہیں پڑھوں گا ) اس پر ابوقتادہ نے عرض کیا: اس کی ادائیگی میرے ذمے ہے، رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے پوچھا: ”پورا پورا ادا کرو گے؟“ تو انہوں نے کہا: ( ہاں ) پورا پورا ادا کریں گے تو آپ نے اس کی نماز جنازہ پڑھائی۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: ۱- ابوقتادہ کی حدیث حسن صحیح ہے، ۲- اس باب میں جابر، سلمہ بن الاکوع، اسماء بنت یزید رضی الله عنہم سے بھی احادیث آئی ہیں۔

English Translation

Abdullah bin Abi Qatadah narrated from his father that: The Prophet was brought a (deceased) man to perform Salat over. So the Prophet said: Pray for your companion; for indeed he had a debt upon him. Abu Qatadah said: It shall be upon me. So the Messenger of Allah said: To pay it off? (He said: To pay it off. ) So he performed the prayer for him.
