حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ، أَخْبَرَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ، أَخْبَرَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ عَمَّارِ بْنِ أَبِي عَمَّارٍ، قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قَرَأَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ الْيَوْمَ أَكْمَلْتُ لَكُمْ دِينَكُمْ وَأَتْمَمْتُ عَلَيْكُمْ نِعْمَتِي وَرَضِيتُ لَكُمُ الإِسْلامَ دِينًا سورة المائدة آية 3 وَعِنْدَهُ يَهُودِيٌّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ لَوْ أُنْزِلَتْ هَذِهِ عَلَيْنَا لَاتَّخَذْنَا يَوْمَهَا عِيدًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ:‏‏‏‏ فَإِنَّهَا نَزَلَتْ فِي يَوْمِ عِيدٍ فِي يَوْمِ جُمْعَةٍ وَيَوْمِ عَرَفَةَ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ غَرِيبٌ مِنْ حَدِيثِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ وَهُوَ صَحِيحٌ.

Urdu Translation

عمار بن ابی عمار کہتے ہیں کہ   ابن عباس رضی الله عنہما نے آیت «اليوم أكملت لكم دينكم وأتممت عليكم نعمتي ورضيت لكم الإسلام دينا» پڑھی، ان کے پاس ایک یہودی بیٹھا ہوا تھا۔ اس نے کہا: اگر یہ آیت ہم ( یہودیوں ) پر نازل ہوئی ہوتی تو جس دن یہ آیت نازل ہوئی ہے اس دن کو ہم عید ( تہوار ) کا دن بنا لیتے یہ سن کر ابن عباس رضی الله عنہما نے کہا: یہ آیت عید ہی کے دن نازل ہوئی ہے۔ اس دن جمعہ اور عرفہ کا دن تھا۔ ( اور یہ دونوں دن مسلمانوں کی عید کے دن ہیں ) ۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: یہ حدیث ابن عباس کی روایت سے حسن غریب ہے۔

English Translation

Narrated 'Ammar bin Abi 'Ammar: Ibn Abbas recited: This day, I have perfected your religion for you, completed My favor upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion (5:3). And a Jew was with him who said: 'If this Ayah was revealed to us then we would have taken that day as a day of celebration.' So Ibn 'Abbas said: 'Indeed it was revealed on two 'Eids: On Friday, and on the Day of 'Arafah.'
