حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مَنِيعٍ، حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بِشْرٍ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، فِي قَوْلِهِ:‏‏‏‏ وَلا تَجْهَرْ بِصَلاتِكَ وَلا تُخَافِتْ بِهَا وَابْتَغِ بَيْنَ ذَلِكَ سَبِيلا سورة الإسراء آية 110، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ نَزَلَتْ وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم مختف بمكة، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَكَانَ إِذَا صَلَّى بِأَصْحَابِهِ رَفَعَ صَوْتَهُ بِالْقُرْآنِ فَكَانَ الْمُشْرِكُونَ إِذَا سَمِعُوهُ شَتَمُوا الْقُرْآنَ وَمَنْ أَنْزَلَهُ وَمَنْ جَاءَ بِهِ فَقَالَ اللَّهُ لِنَبِيِّهِ:‏‏‏‏ وَلا تَجْهَرْ بِصَلاتِكَ سورة الإسراء آية 110 أَيْ بِقِرَاءَتِكَ فَيَسْمَعَ الْمُشْرِكُونَ فَيَسُبُّوا الْقُرْآنَ وَلا تُخَافِتْ بِهَا سورة الإسراء آية 110 عَنْ أَصْحَابِكَوَابْتَغِ بَيْنَ ذَلِكَ سَبِيلا سورة الإسراء آية 110 ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ.

Urdu Translation

  عبداللہ بن عباس رضی الله عنہما آیت کریمہ: «ولا تجهر بصلاتك ولا تخافت بها وابتغ بين ذلك سبيلا» ”صلاۃ میں آواز بہت بلند نہ کیجئے اور نہ ہی بہت پست بلکہ دونوں کے درمیان کا راستہ اختیار کیجئے“ ( الاسراء: ۱۱۰ ) ، کے بارے میں کہتے ہیں: یہ آیت مکہ میں اس وقت نازل ہوئی جب آپ مکہ میں چھپے چھپے رہتے تھے، جب آپ اپنے صحابہ کے ساتھ نماز پڑھتے تھے تو قرآن بلند آواز سے پڑھتے تھے، مشرکین جب سن لیتے تو قرآن، قرآن نازل کرنے والے اور قرآن لانے والے سب کو گالیاں دیتے تھے۔ اس پر اللہ تعالیٰ نے اپنے نبی صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے کہا: «ولا تجهر بصلاتك» بلند آواز سے نماز نہ پڑھو ( یعنی بلند آواز سے قرأت نہ کرو ) کہ جسے سن کر مشرکین قرآن کو گالیاں دینے لگیں اور نہ دھیمی آواز سے پڑھو ( کہ تمہارے صحابہ سن نہ سکیں ) بلکہ درمیان کا راستہ اختیار کرو۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: یہ حدیث حسن صحیح ہے۔

English Translation

Narrated Sa'eed bin Jubair: from Ibn 'Abbas regarding Allah's saying: And offer your Salat neither aloud nor in a low voice but follow a way between. He said: It was revealed when the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was hiding himself in Makkah, and when he led his Companions in Salat, he would raise his voice with the Qur'an. So when the idolaters heard it they would insult the Qur'an, the One Who revealed it, and the one who came with it. So Allah, Most High, said to His Prophet: 'And offer your Salat neither aloud' that is: Your recitation, so that the idolaters would not hear it and insult the Qur'an. 'Nor in a low voice (too low)' for your Companions, 'but follow a way between.'
