حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ، حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ، أَنْبَأَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ الْحَكَمِ بْنِ عُتَيْبَةَ، قَال:‏‏‏‏ سَمِعْتُ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ كَعْبٍ الْقُرَظِيَّ مُنْذُ أَرْبَعِينَ سَنَةً يُحَدِّثُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَرْقَمَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ أُبَيٍّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ فِي غَزْوَةِ تَبُوكَ:‏‏‏‏ لَئِنْ رَجَعْنَا إِلَى الْمَدِينَةِ لَيُخْرِجَنَّ الأَعَزُّ مِنْهَا الأَذَلَّ سورة المنافقون آية 8، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ فَأَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لَهُ فَحَلَفَ مَا قَالَهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَلَامَنِي قَوْمِي، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَقَالُوا:‏‏‏‏ مَا أَرَدْتَ إِلَّا هَذِهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَأَتَيْتُ الْبَيْتَ وَنِمْتُ كَئِيبًا حَزِينًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَأَتَانِي النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَوْ أَتَيْتُهُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّ اللَّهَ قَدْ صَدَّقَكَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ فَنَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ:‏‏‏‏ هُمُ الَّذِينَ يَقُولُونَ لا تُنْفِقُوا عَلَى مَنْ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ حَتَّى يَنْفَضُّوا سورة المنافقون آية 7 . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ.

Urdu Translation

حکم بن عیینہ کہتے ہیں کہ   میں محمد بن کعب قرظی کو چالیس سال سے زید بن ارقم رضی الله عنہ سے روایت کرتے سن رہا ہوں کہ غزوہ تبوک میں عبداللہ بن ابی نے کہا: اگر ہم مدینہ لوٹے تو عزت والے لوگ ذلت والوں کو مدینہ سے ضرور نکال باہر کریں گے، وہ کہتے ہیں: میں یہ سن کر رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے پاس پہنچا، اور آپ کو یہ بات بتا دی ( جب اس سے بازپرس ہوئی ) تو وہ قسم کھا گیا کہ اس نے تو ایسی کوئی بات کہی ہی نہیں ہے، میری قوم نے مجھے ملامت کی، لوگوں نے کہا: تجھے اس طرح کی ( جھوٹ ) بات کہنے سے کیا ملا؟ میں گھر آ گیا، رنج و غم میں ڈوبا ہوا لیٹ گیا، پھر نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم میرے پاس آئے یا میں آپ کے پاس پہنچا ( راوی کو شک ہو گیا ہے کہ زید بن ارقم رضی الله عنہ نے یہ کہا یا وہ کہا ) آپ نے فرمایا: ”اللہ نے تجھے سچا ٹھہرایا ہے یہ آیت نازل ہوئی ہے: «هم الذين يقولون لا تنفقوا على من عند رسول الله حتى ينفضوا» ”وہی لوگ تھے جو کہتے تھے ان لوگوں پر خرچ نہ کرو، جو رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے پاس ہیں یہاں تک کہ وہ منتشر ہو جائیں“ ( المنافقون: ۷ ) ۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: یہ حدیث حسن صحیح ہے۔

English Translation

Al-Hakam bin Utaibah said: “I heard Muhammad bin Ka’b Al-Qurazi – forty years ago – narrating from Zaid bin Arqam [may Allah be pleased with him] that during the battle of Tabuk, Abdullah bin Ubayy said: “If we return to Al-Madinah, indeed the more honorable will expel therefrom the meaner.” He said: ‘So I went to the Prophet and mentioned that to him, but he (Abdullah) took an oath that he did not say it. My people blamed me for that, they said: “What did you expect to accomplish from this?’ So I went to my house and slept full of grief. Then the Prophet came to me’ or ‘I went to him, and he said: “Indeed Allah has verified the truth of what you said.” He said: ‘So this Ayah was revealed: there are the ones who say: “Do not spend on those who are with the Messenger of Allah until they desert from him.”
