Abu Hurairah narrated that : the Messenger of Allah said: Count the (the appearances of) the crescent of Sha'ban for Ramadan.

حَدَّثَنَا مُسْلِمُ بْنُ حَجَّاجٍ، حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ:‏‏‏‏ أَحْصُوا هِلَالَ شَعْبَانَ لِرَمَضَانَ . قَالَ أَبُو عِيسَى:‏‏‏‏ حَدِيثُ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ غَرِيبٌ لَا نَعْرِفُهُ مِثْلَ هَذَا إِلَّا مِنْ حَدِيثِ أَبِي مُعَاوِيَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَالصَّحِيحُ مَا رُوِيَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ لَا تَقَدَّمُوا شَهْرَ رَمَضَانَ بِيَوْمٍ وَلَا يَوْمَيْنِ . وَهَكَذَا رُوِيَ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏نَحْوَ حَدِيثِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمْرٍو اللَّيْثِيِّ.

ابوہریرہ رضی الله عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ   رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: ”رمضان کے لیے شعبان کے چاند کی گنتی کرو“۔ امام ترمذی کہتے ہیں: ۱- ابوہریرہ رضی الله عنہ کی حدیث غریب ہے، ۲- ہم اسے اس طرح ابومعاویہ ہی کی روایت سے جانتے ہیں اور صحیح وہ روایت ہے جو ( عبدہ بن سلیمان نے ) بطریق «محمد بن عمرو عن أبي سلمة عن أبي هريرة عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم» روایت کی ہے کہ آپ نے فرمایا: ”رمضان کے استقبال میں ایک یا دو دن پہلے روزہ شروع نہ کر دو، اسی طرح بطریق: «يحيى بن أبي كثير عن أبي سلمة عن أبي هريرة عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم» مروی ہے۔
