Narrated Anas bin Malik: While the Prophet was in the market, somebody, called, O Abul-Qasim. The Prophet turned to him. The man said, I have called to this (i.e. another man). The Prophet said, Name yourselves by my name but not by my Kunya (name). (In Arabic world it is the custom to call the man as the father of his eldest son, e.g. Abul-Qasim.) حَدَّثَنَا آدَمُ بْنُ أَبِي إِيَاسٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ حُمَيْدٍ الطَّوِيلِ ، عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ ، قَالَ : كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي السُّوقِ ، فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ : يَا أَبَا الْقَاسِمِ ، فَالْتَفَتَ إِلَيْهِ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، فَقَالَ : إِنَّمَا دَعَوْتُ هَذَا ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ :سَمُّوا بِاسْمِي وَلَا تَكَنَّوْا بِكُنْيَتِي .

ہم سے آدم بن ابی ایاس نے بیان کیا، کہا کہ ہم سے شعبہ نے بیان کیا، ان سے حمید طویل نے بیان کیا، اور ان سے انس بن مالک رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہ   نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم ایک مرتبہ بازار میں تھے۔ کہ ایک شخص نے پکارا یا ابا القاسم! آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے اس کی طرف دیکھا۔ ( کیونکہ آپ کی کنیت ابوالقاسم ہی تھی ) اس پر اس شخص نے کہا کہ میں نے تو اس کو بلایا تھا۔ ( یعنی ایک دوسرے شخص کو جو ابوالقاسم ہی کنیت رکھتا تھا ) آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا کہ تم لوگ میرے نام پر نام رکھا کرو لیکن میری کنیت تم اپنے لیے نہ رکھو۔
