Narrated `Abdullah bin `Umar: The Prophet said, Bilal pronounces the Adhan when it is still night (before dawn), so eat and drink till the next Adhan is pronounced (or till you hear Ibn Um Maktum's Adhan). Ibn Um Maktum was a blind man who would not pronounce the Adhan till he was told that it was dawn.

حَدَّثَنَا مَالِكُ بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ ، أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا ، قَالَ : قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : إِنَّ بِلَالًا يُؤَذِّنُ بِلَيْلٍ ، فَكُلُوا وَاشْرَبُوا حَتَّى يُؤَذِّنَ ، أَوْ قَالَ حَتَّى تَسْمَعُوا أَذَانَ ابْنِ أُمِّ مَكْتُومٍ ، وَكَانَ ابْنُ أُمِّ مَكْتُومٍ رَجُلًا أَعْمَى ، لَا يُؤَذِّنُ حَتَّى يَقُولَ لَهُ النَّاسُ أَصْبَحْتَ .

ہم سے مالک بن اسماعیل نے بیان کیا، کہا ہم سے عبدالعزیز بن ابی سلمہ نے بیان کیا، کہا ہم کو ابن شہاب نے خبر دی سالم بن عبداللہ سے اور ان سے عبداللہ بن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما نے بیان کیا کہ   رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا ”بلال رضی اللہ عنہ رات میں اذان دیتے ہیں۔ اس لیے تم لوگ سحری کھا پی سکتے ہو یہاں تک کہ ( فجر کے لیے ) دوسری اذان پکاری جائے۔“ یا ( یہ فرمایا ) یہاں تک کہ ”عبداللہ ابن ام مکتوم رضی اللہ عنہ کی اذان سن لو۔“ عبداللہ ابن ام مکتوم رضی اللہ عنہ نابینا تھے اور جب تک ان سے کہا نہ جاتا صبح ہو گئی ہے، وہ اذان نہیں دیتے تھے۔
