حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ مَسْرُوقٍ ، عَنْ عَبَايَةَ بْنِ رِفَاعَةَ ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ رَافِعٍ ، قَالَ : كُنَّا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِذِي الْحُلَيْفَةِ فَأَصَابَ النَّاسَ جُوعٌ وَأَصَبْنَا إِبِلًا وَغَنَمًا ، وَكَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي أُخْرَيَاتِ النَّاسِ فَعَجِلُوا فَنَصَبُوا الْقُدُورَ ، فَأَمَرَ بِالْقُدُورِ فَأُكْفِئَتْ ثُمَّ قَسَمَ فَعَدَلَ عَشَرَةً مِنَ الْغَنَمِ بِبَعِيرٍ فَنَدَّ مِنْهَا بَعِيرٌ وَفِي الْقَوْمِ خَيْلٌ يَسِير فَطَلَبُوهُ ، فَأَعْيَاهُمْ ، فَأَهْوَى إِلَيْهِ رَجُلٌ بِسَهْمٍ ، فَحَبَسَهُ اللَّهُ ، فَقَالَ : هَذِهِ الْبَهَائِمُ لَهَا أَوَابِدُ كَأَوَابِدِ الْوَحْشِ فَمَا نَدَّ عَلَيْكُمْ فَاصْنَعُوا بِهِ هَكَذَا ، فَقَالَ جَدِّي : إِنَّا نَرْجُو أَوْ نَخَافُ أَنْ نَلْقَى الْعَدُوَّ غَدًا وَلَيْسَ مَعَنَا مُدًى أَفَنَذْبَحُ بِالْقَصَبِ ، فَقَالَ : مَا أَنْهَرَ الدَّمَ وَذُكِرَ اسْمُ اللَّهِ عَلَيْهِ فَكُلْ لَيْسَ السِّنَّ وَالظُّفُرَ وَسَأُحَدِّثُكُمْ عَنْ ذَلِكَ أَمَّا السِّنُّ فَعَظْمٌ ، وَأَمَّا الظُّفُرُ فَمُدَى الْحَبَشَةِ .

Urdu Translation

ہم سے موسیٰ بن اسماعیل نے بیان کیا ‘ کہا ہم سے ابوعوانہ وضاح شکری نے بیان کیا ‘ ان سے سعید بن مسروق نے ‘ ان سے عبایہ بن رفاعہ نے اور ان سے ان کے دادا رافع بن خدیج رضی اللہ عنہ نے بیان کیا کہ   مقام ذوالحلیفہ میں ہم نے نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے ساتھ پڑاؤ کیا۔ لوگ بھوکے تھے۔ ادھر غنیمت میں ہمیں اونٹ اور بکریاں ملی تھیں۔ نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم لشکر کے پیچھے حصے میں تھے۔ لوگوں نے ( بھوک کے مارے ) جلدی کی ہانڈیاں چڑھا دیں۔ بعد میں نبی کریم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے حکم سے ان ہانڈیوں کو اوندھا دیا گیا پھر آپ نے غنیمت کی تقسیم شروع کی دس بکریوں کو ایک اونٹ کے برابر رکھا اتفاق سے مال غنیمت کا ایک اونٹ بھاگ نکلا۔ لشکر میں گھوڑوں کی کمی تھی۔ لوگ اسے پکڑنے کے لیے دوڑے لیکن اونٹ نے سب کو تھکا دیا۔ آخر ایک صحابی ( خود رافع رضی اللہ عنہ ) نے اسے تیر مارا۔ اللہ تعالیٰ کے حکم سے اونٹ جہاں تھا وہیں رہ گیا۔ اس پر آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا کہ ان ( پالتو ) جانوروں میں بھی جنگلی جانوروں کی طرح بعض دفعہ وحشت ہو جاتی ہے۔ اس لیے اگر ان میں سے کوئی قابو میں نہ آئے تو اس کے ساتھ ایسا ہی کرو۔ عبایہ کہتے ہیں کہ میرے دادا ( رافع رضی اللہ عنہ ) نے خدمت نبوی میں عرض کیا ‘ کہ ہمیں امید ہے یا ( یہ کہا کہ ) خوف ہے کہ کل کہیں ہماری دشمن سے مڈبھیڑ نہ ہو جائے۔ ادھر ہمارے پاس چھری نہیں ہے۔ تو کیا ہم بانس کی کھپچیوں سے ذبح کر سکتے ہیں؟ آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا کہ جو چیز خون بہا دے اور ذبح کرتے وقت اس پر اللہ تعالیٰ کا نام بھی لیا گیا ہو ‘ تو اس کا گوشت کھانا حلال ہے۔ البتہ وہ چیز ( جس سے ذبح کیا گیا ہو ) دانت اور ناخن نہ ہونا چاہئے۔ تمہارے سامنے میں اس کی وجہ بھی بیان کرتا ہوں دانت تو اس لیے نہیں کہ وہ ہڈی ہے اور ناخن اس لیے نہیں کہ وہ حبشیوں کی چھری ہیں۔

English Translation

Narrated Abaya bin Rifaa: My grandfather, Rafi` said, We were in the company of the Prophet at DhulHulaifa, and the people suffered from hunger. We got some camels and sheep (as booty) and the Prophet was still behind the people. They hurried and put the cooking pots on the fire. (When he came) he ordered that the cooking pots should be upset and then he distributed the booty (amongst the people) regarding ten sheep as equal to one camel then a camel fled and the people chased it till they got tired, as they had a few horses (for chasing it). So a man threw an arrow at it and caused it to stop (with Allah's Permission). On that the Prophet said, 'Some of these animals behave like wild beasts, so, if any animal flee from you, deal with it in the same way. My grandfather asked (the Prophet ), We hope (or are afraid) that we may meet the enemy tomorrow and we have no knives. Can we slaughter our animals with canes? Allah's Apostle replied, If the instrument used for killing causes the animal to bleed profusely and if Allah's Name is mentioned on killing it, then eat its meat (i.e. it is lawful) but won't use a tooth or a nail and I am telling you the reason: A tooth is a bone (and slaughtering with a bone is forbidden ), and a nail is the slaughtering instrument of the Ethiopians.
