حَدَّثَنَا الْحُمَيْدِيُّ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا الزُّهْرِيُّ ، سَمِعْتُ عُرْوَةَ ، قُلْتُ لِعَائِشَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا ، فَقَالَتْ : إِنَّمَا كَانَ مَنْ أَهَلَّ بِمَنَاةَ الطَّاغِيَةِ الَّتِي بِالْمُشَلَّلِ لَا يَطُوفُونَ بَيْنَ الصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةِ ، فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى إِنَّ الصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةَ مِنْ شَعَائِرِ اللَّهِ سورة البقرة آية 158 ، فَطَافَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَالْمُسْلِمُون ، قَالَ سُفْيَانُ : مَنَاةُ بِالْمُشَلَّلِ مِنْ قُدَيْدٍ . وَقَالَ عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ خَالِدٍ ، عَنْ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ ، قَالَ عُرْوَةُ ، قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ : نَزَلَتْ فِي الْأَنْصَارِ كَانُوا هُمْ وَغَسَّانُ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُسْلِمُوا يُهِلُّونَ لِمَنَاةَ مِثْلَهُ . وَقَالَ مَعْمَرٌ : عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ عُرْوَةَ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ : كَانَ رِجَالٌ مِنْ الْأَنْصَارِ مِمَّنْ كَانَ يُهِلُّ لِمَنَاةَ وَمَنَاةُ صَنَمٌ بَيْنَ مَكَّةَ وَالْمَدِينَةِ ، قَالُوا : يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ ، كُنَّا لَا نَطُوفُ بَيْنَ الصَّفَا وَالْمَرْوَةِ تَعْظِيمًا لِمَنَاةَ نَحْوَهُ .

Urdu Translation

ہم سے عبداللہ بن زبیر حمیدی نے بیان کیا، کہا ہم سے سفیان بن عیینہ نے بیان کیا کہ میں نے عروہ سے سنا، انہوں نے بیان کیا کہ   میں نے عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا سے پوچھا تو انہوں نے کہا کہ کچھ لوگ منات بت کے نام پر احرام باندھتے جو مقام مشلل میں تھا، وہ صفا اور مروہ کے درمیان ( حج و عمرہ میں ) سعی نہیں کرتے تھے اس پر اللہ تعالیٰ نے آیت نازل کی «إن الصفا والمروة من شعائر الله‏» ”بیشک صفا اور مروہ اللہ کی نشانیوں میں سے ہیں“ چنانچہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے ان کے درمیان طواف کیا اور مسلمانوں نے بھی طواف کیا۔ سفیان نے کہا کہ ”مناۃ“ مقام قدید پر مشلل میں تھا اور عبدالرحمٰن بن خالد نے بیان کیا کہ ان سے ابن شہاب نے، ان سے عروہ نے بیان کیا اور ان سے عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا نے کہا کہ یہ آیت انصار کے بارے میں نازل ہوئی تھی۔ اسلام سے پہلے انصار اور غسان کے لوگ منات کے نام پر احرام باندھتے تھے، پہلی حدیث کی طرح۔ اور معمر نے زہری سے بیان کیا، ان سے عروہ نے، ان سے عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا نے کہ قبیلہ انصار کے کچھ لوگ منات کے نام کا احرام باندھتے تھے۔ منات ایک بت تھا جو مکہ اور مدینہ کے درمیان رکھا ہوا تھا ( اسلام لانے کے بعد ) ان لوگوں نے کہا کہ یا رسول اللہ! ہم منات کی تعظیم کے لیے صفا اور مروہ کے درمیان سعی نہیں کیا کرتے تھے۔

English Translation

Narrated `Urwa: I asked `Aisha (regarding the Sai between As Safa and Al-Marwa). She said, Out of reverence to the idol Manat which was placed in Al-Mushailal, those who used to assume Ihram in its name, used not to perform Sai between As-Safa and Al-Marwa, so Allah revealed: 'Verily! The As-Safa and Al-Marwa (two mountains at Mecca) are among the symbols of Allah.' (2.158). Thereupon, Allah's Messenger and the Muslims used to perform Sai (between them). Sufyan said: The (idol) Manat was at Al-Mushailal in Qudaid. `Aisha added, The Verse was revealed in connection with the Ansar. They and (the tribe of) Ghassan used to assume lhram in the name of Manat before they embraced Islam. `Aisha added, There were men from the Ansar who used to assume lhram in the name of Manat which was an idol between Mecca and Medina. They said, O Allah's Messenger ! We used not to perform the Tawaf (Sai) between As-Safa and Al-Marwa out of reverence to Manat.
