حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى قَالَ قَرَأْتُ عَلَى مَالِكٍ عَنْ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ عُرْوَةَ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَبْدٍ الْقَارِيِّ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ يَقُولُ سَمِعْتُ هِشَامَ بْنَ حَكِيمِ بْنِ حِزَامٍ يَقْرَأُ سُورَةَ الْفُرْقَانِ عَلَى غَيْرِ مَا أَقْرَؤُهَا وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَقْرَأَنِيهَا فَكِدْتُ أَنْ أَعْجَلَ عَلَيْهِ ثُمَّ أَمْهَلْتُهُ حَتَّى انْصَرَفَ ثُمَّ لَبَّبْتُهُ بِرِدَائِهِ فَجِئْتُ بِهِ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ هَذَا يَقْرَأُ سُورَةَ الْفُرْقَانِ عَلَى غَيْرِ مَا أَقْرَأْتَنِيهَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَرْسِلْهُ اقْرَأْ فَقَرَأَ الْقِرَاءَةَ الَّتِي سَمِعْتُهُ يَقْرَأُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ هَكَذَا أُنْزِلَتْ ثُمَّ قَالَ لِي اقْرَأْ فَقَرَأْتُ فَقَالَ هَكَذَا أُنْزِلَتْ إِنَّ هَذَا الْقُرْآنَ أُنْزِلَ عَلَى سَبْعَةِ أَحْرُفٍ فَاقْرَءُوا مَا تَيَسَّرَ مِنْهُ

Urdu Translation

  مالک نے ابن شہاب سے ، انھوں نے عروہ بن زبیر سے انھوں نے عبدالرحمان بن عبدالقاری سے روایت کی ، انھوں نے کہا : میں نے حضرت عمر بن خطاب رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے سنا ، وہ کہہ رہے تھے : میں نے ہشام بن حکیم بن حزام کو سورہ فرقان اس سے مختلف ( صورت میں ) پڑھتے سنا جس طرح میں پڑھتا تھا ۔ ، حالانکہ مجھے ( خود ) رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے یہ سورت پڑھائی تھی ، قریب تھا کہ میں اس سے جھگڑا کرنے میں جلد بازی سے کام لیتا لیکن میں نے اس کو مہلت دی حتیٰ کہ وہ نماز سے فارغ ہوگیا ، پھر میں نے اسے گلے کی چادر سے اسے باندھا اور کھینچ کر رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے پا س لے آیا اور آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے عرض کی : اے اللہ کے رسول صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم !میں نے اس کو اس طرح سورہ فرقان پڑھتے ہوئےسنا ہے جو اس سے مختلف ہے جس طرح آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے مجھے وہ سورت پڑھائی تھی ۔ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا؛ " اسے چھوڑ دو ( اور اسے مخاطت ہوکر فرمایا : ) پڑھو ۔ " تو اس نے اسی طرح پڑھا جس طرح میں نے اسے پڑھتے ہوئے سنا تھا ۔ اس پر رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا : " یہ سورت اسی طرح نازل ہوئی ہے ۔ " پھر مجھ سے کہا : " تم پڑھو ۔ " میں نے پڑھا تو ( اس پر بھی ) آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا : " یہ سورت اسی طرح اتری تھی ۔ بلاشبہ یہ قرآن سات حروف پر نازل کیا گیا ہے ۔ پس ان میں سے جو تمھارے لئے آسان ہواسی کے مطابق پڑھو ۔ "

English Translation

Umar b. Khattab said: I heard Hisham b. Hakim b. Hizam reciting Surah al-Furqan in a style different from that in which I used to recite it, and in which Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) had taught me to recite it. I was about to dispute with him (on this style) but I delayed till he had finished that (the recitation). Then I caught hold of his cloak and brought him to the Messenger of Allah ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) and said: Messenger of Allah, I heard this man reciting Surah al-Furqan in a style different from the one in which you taught me to recite. Upon this the Messenger of Allah ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) told (me) to leave him alone and asked him to recite. He then recited in the style in which I beard him recite it. The Messenger of Allah ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) then said: Thus was it sent down. He then told me to recite and I recited it, and he said: Thus was it sent down. The Qur'an was sent down in seven dialects. So recite what seems easy therefrom.
