حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، وَابْنُ بَشَّارٍ، قَالَ ابْنُ الْمُثَنَّى: حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ، قَالَ: قَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ شَقِيقٍ: كَانَ عُثْمَانُ يَنْهَى عَنِ الْمُتْعَةِ، وَكَانَ عَلِيٌّ يَأْمُرُ بِهَا، فَقَالَ عُثْمَانُ لِعَلِيٍّ: كَلِمَةً، ثُمَّ قَالَ عَلِيٌّ: لَقَدْ عَلِمْتَ أَنَّا قَدْ تَمَتَّعْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ: أَجَلْ، وَلَكِنَّا كُنَّا خَائِفِينَ

Urdu Translation

  محمد بن جعفر نے کہا : ہمیں شعبہ نے قتادہ سے حدیث بیان کی ، کہا : عبداللہ بن شقیق نے بیان کیا : عثمان رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ حج تمتع سے منع فرمایا کرتے تھے اور حضرت علی رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ اس کا حکم دیتے تھے ۔ ( ایک مرتبہ ) حضرت عثمان رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے حضرت علی رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے اس بارے میں کوئی بات کہی ۔ اس کے بعد حضرت علی رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے فرمایا : آپ اچھی طرح جانتے ہیں کہ ہم نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کے ساتھ حج تمتع کیا تھا ۔ ( حضرت عثمان رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے ) کہا : جی بالکل ( کیا تھا ) لیکن اس وقت ہم خوفزدہ تھے ۔

English Translation

Abdullah b. Shaqiq reported that 'Uthman (Allah be pleased with him) used to forbid Tamattu', whereas 'Ali (Allah be pleased with him) ordered to do it. 'Uthman said a word to 'Ali, but 'Ali said: You know that we used to perform Tamattu' with the Messenger of Allah ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ), whereupon he said: It is right, but we entertained fear.
