Sahih Muslim 356 - The Book Of Faith

Baab Emaan Ka Bayan

حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ، أَخْبَرَنَا جَرِيرٌ، عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ، عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ، قَالَ: «مَنْ حَلَفَ عَلَى يَمِينٍ يَسْتَحِقُّ بِهَا مَالًا، هُوَ فِيهَا فَاجِرٌ، لَقِيَ اللهَ وَهُوَ عَلَيْهِ غَضْبَانُ»، ثُمَّ ذَكَرَ نَحْوَ حَدِيثِ الْأَعْمَشِ، غَيْرَ أَنَّهُ قَالَ: كَانَتْ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَ رَجُلٍ خُصُومَةٌ فِي بِئْرٍ، فَاخْتَصَمْنَا إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ: «شَاهِدَاكَ أَوْ يَمِينُهُ»

Urdu Translation

  ( اعمش کے بجائے ) منصور نے ابووائل سے اور انہوں نے عبداللہ بن مسعود ‌رضی ‌اللہ ‌عنہ ‌ ‌ سے روایت کی ۔ حضرت عبد اللہ ‌رضی ‌اللہ ‌عنہ ‌ ‌ نے کہا : جو شخص ایسی قسم اٹھاتا ہے جس کی بنا پر وہ مال کا حق دار ٹھہرتا ہے او روہ اس قسم میں جھوٹا ہے تو وہ اللہ کو اس حالت میں ملے گا کہ اللہ تعالیٰ اس پر ناراض ہوگا ، پھر اعمش کی طرح روایت بیان کی البتہ ( اس میں ) انہوں نے کہا : میرے اور ایک آدمی کے درمیان کنویں کے بارے میں جھگڑا تھا ۔ ہم ہی جھگڑا رسول اللہ ﷺ کے پاس لے گئے تو آپ ﷺ نے فرمایا : ’’ تمہارے دو گواہ ہوں یا اس کی قسم ( کے ساتھ فیصلہ ہو گا ) ۔ ‘ ‘

English Translation

It is narrated on the authority of Abdullah that he heard the Prophet ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) saying: He who took an oath in order to entitle himself (to the possession) of a property, whereas he is a liar, would meet Allah in a state that He would be very much angry with him. Then the remaining part of the hadith was narrated as transmitted by A'mash but with the exception of these words: There was a dispute between me and another person in regard to a well. We referred this dispute to the Messenger of Allah ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ). Upon this he remarked: Either (you should produce) two witnesses (to support your contention) or his oath (would be accepted as valid).
