Baab Qasmon Ka Bayan

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُثَنَّى، وَابْنُ بَشَّارٍ، قَالَا: حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ، عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ، عَنْ تَمِيمِ بْنِ طَرَفَةَ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عَدِيَّ بْنَ حَاتِمٍ، وَأَتَاهُ رَجُلٌ يَسْأَلُهُ مِائَةَ دِرْهَمٍ، فَقَالَ: تَسْأَلُنِي مِائَةَ دِرْهَمٍ، وَأَنَا ابْنُ حَاتِمٍ، وَاللهِ لَا أُعْطِيكَ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: لَوْلَا أَنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، يَقُولُ: «مَنْ حَلَفَ عَلَى يَمِينٍ، ثُمَّ رَأَى خَيْرًا مِنْهَا، فَلْيَأْتِ الَّذِي هُوَ خَيْرٌ

Urdu Translation

  محمد بن جعفر نے کہا : ہمیں شعبہ نے سماک بن حرب سے حدیث بیان کی اور انہوں نے تمیم بن طرفہ سے روایت کی ، انہوں نے کہا : میں نے حضرت عدی بن حاتم رضی اللہ عنہ سے سنا ، ان کے پاس ایک آدمی ایک سو درہم مانگنے کے لیے آیا تھا ، ( غلام کی قیمت میں سے سو درہم کم تھے ) انہوں نے کہا : تو مجھ سے ( سرف ) سو درہم مانگ رہا جبکہ میں حاتم طائی کا بیٹا ہوں؟ اللہ کی قسم! میں تمہیں ( کچھ ) نہیں دوں گا ، پھر انہوں نے کہا : اگر میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو یہ فرماتے ہوئے نہ سنا ہوتا : " جس نے کوئی قسم کھائی ، پھر اس سے بہتر کام دیکھا تو وہ وہی کرے جو بہتر ہے ۔ " ( تو میں تمہیں کچھ نہ دیتا

English Translation

Tamim b. Tarafa reported that he heard 'Adi b. Hatim say that a person came to him and asked for one hundred dirhams. He ('Adi) said: You asked me for one hundred dirhams and I am the son of Hatim; by Allah, I will not give you. But then he said: (I would have done that) if I had not heard Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) say: He who takes an oath, but then finds something better than that, should do that which is better.
