Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) as saying: The truest word spoken by an Arab (pre-Islamic) in poetry is this verse of Labid: Behold! apart from Allah everything is vain.

حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الصَّبَّاحِ وَعَلِيُّ بْنُ حُجْرٍ السَّعْدِيُّ، جَمِيعًا عَنْ شَرِيكٍ، قَالَ: ابْنُ حُجْرٍ أَخْبَرَنَا شَرِيكٌ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: أَشْعَرُ كَلِمَةٍ تَكَلَّمَتْ بِهَا الْعَرَبُ كَلِمَةُ لَبِيدٍ: [البحر الطويل] أَلَا كُلُّ شَيْءٍ مَا خَلَا اللهَ بَاطِلٌ

  شریک نے عبد الملک بن عمیر سے انھوں نے ابو سلمہ سے ، انھوں نے حضرت ابو ہریرہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے اور انھوں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم سے روایت کی کہ آپ نے فر ما یا : " عربوں نے شعر میں جو سب سے عمدہ بات کہی وہ بات لبید کا یہ جملہ ہے : " سن رکھو !اللہ کے سوا ہر چیز ( جس کی عبادت کی جا تی ہے ) باطل ہے ۔ " ( دوسرا مصرع ہے : وكلُّ نعيمٍ لا مَحالة َ زائِلُ " اور ہر نعمت لا زمی طور پر زائل ہو نے والی ہے " )
