Sahih Muslim 5900 - The Book Of Dreams

Baab Khawab Ka Bayan

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مَسْلَمَةَ بْنِ قَعْنَبٍ، حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ بِلَالٍ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ أَبَا سَلَمَةَ بْنَ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، يَقُولُ: سَمِعْتُ أَبَا قَتَادَةَ، يَقُولُ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: «الرُّؤْيَا مِنَ اللهِ، وَالْحُلْمُ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ، فَإِذَا رَأَى أَحَدُكُمْ شَيْئًا يَكْرَهُهُ، فَلْيَنْفُثْ عَنْ يَسَارِهِ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ وَلْيَتَعَوَّذْ بِاللهِ مِنْ شَرِّهَا، فَإِنَّهَا لَنْ تَضُرَّهُ» فَقَالَ: «إِنْ كُنْتُ لَأَرَى الرُّؤْيَا أَثْقَلَ عَلَيَّ مِنْ جَبَلٍ، فَمَا هُوَ إِلَّا أَنْ سَمِعْتُ بِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ، فَمَا أُبَالِيهَا»

Urdu Translation

  ابو سلمہ بن عبد الرحمان نے کہا : میں نے حضرت ابو قتادہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے سنا ، کہتے تھے : میں نے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کو فر ما تے ہوئے سنا ، " ( سچا ) خواب اللہ کی جانب سے ہے اور ( برا ) خواب شیطا ن کی طرف سے ہے ، جب تم میں سے کو ئی شخص ایسا خواب دیکھے جو اسے برا لگے تو وہ اپنی بائیں جانب تین بار تھوک دے اور اس ( خواب ) کے شر سے اللہ کی پناہ مانگےتو وہ خواب اسے ہر گز نقصان نہیں پہنچاسکے گا ۔ " تو ( ابو سلمہ نے ) کہا : بعض اوقات میں ایسا خواب دیکھتا جو مجھ پر پہاڑ سے بھی زیادہ بھاری ہو تا تھا ، پھر یہی ہوا کہ میں نے یہ حدیث سنی تو اب میں اس کی پروانہیں کرتا ۔

English Translation

Abu Qatada reported Allah's Messenger ( ‌صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم ‌ ) as saying: A good vision is from Allah and a bad dream (hulm) is from the satan; so if one of you sees anything (in a dream) which he dislikes, he should spit on his left side thrice and seek refuge with Allah from its evil, and then it will never harm him. Abu Salama said: I used to see dreams weighing more heavily upon me than a mountain; but since I heard this hadith I don't care for it (its burden).
