حَدَّثَنَا مَخْلَدُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ الشُّعَيْرِيُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ يُونُسَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا عِكْرِمَةُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ عَمَّارٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ حَدَّثَنِي إِسْحَاق يَعْنِي ابْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ قَالَ أَنَسٌ:‏‏‏‏ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ أَحْسَنِ النَّاسِ خُلُقًا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَأَرْسَلَنِي يَوْمًا لِحَاجَةٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقُلْتُ:‏‏‏‏ وَاللَّهِ لَا أَذهَبُ وَفِي نَفْسِي أَنْ أَذهَبَ لِمَا أَمَرَنِي بِهِ نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ فَخَرَجْتُ حَتَّى أَمُرَّ عَلَى صِبْيَانٍ وَهُمْ يَلْعَبُونَ فِي السُّوقِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَإِذَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَابِضٌ بِقَفَايَ مِنْ وَرَائِي، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَنَظَرْتُ إِلَيْهِ وَهُوَ يَضْحَكُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ يَا أُنَيسُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏اذْهَبْ حَيْثُ أَمَرْتُكَ ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قُلْتُ:‏‏‏‏ نَعَمْ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنَا أَذّهَبُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ أَنَسٌ:‏‏‏‏ وَاللَّهِ لَقَدْ خَدَمْتُهُ سَبْعَ سِنِينَ أَوْ تِسْعَ سِنِينَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏مَا عَلِمْتُ قَالَ لِشَيْءٍ صَنَعْتُ:‏‏‏‏ لِمَ فَعَلْتَ كَذَا وَكَذَا ؟ وَلَا لِشَيْءٍ تَرَكْتُ:‏‏‏‏ هَلَّا فَعَلْتَ كَذَا وَكَذَا .

Urdu Translation

انس رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ   رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم لوگوں میں سب سے بہتر اخلاق والے تھے، ایک دن آپ نے مجھے کسی ضرورت سے بھیجا تو میں نے کہا: قسم اللہ کی، میں نہیں جاؤں گا، حالانکہ میرے دل میں یہ بات تھی کہ اللہ کے نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے حکم دیا ہے، اس لیے ضرور جاؤں گا، چنانچہ میں نکلا یہاں تک کہ جب میں کچھ بچوں کے پاس سے گزر رہا تھا اور وہ بازار میں کھیل رہے تھے کہ اچانک رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے میرے پیچھے سے میری گردن پکڑ لی، میں نے آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی طرف مڑ کر دیکھا، آپ ہنس رہے تھے، پھر آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا: اے ننھے انس! جاؤ جہاں میں نے تمہیں حکم دیا ہے میں نے عرض کیا: ٹھیک ہے، میں جا رہا ہوں، اللہ کے رسول، انس کہتے ہیں: اللہ کی قسم، میں نے سات سال یا نو سال آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی خدمت کی، لیکن مجھے نہیں معلوم کہ آپ نے کبھی میرے کسی ایسے کام پر جو میں نے کیا ہو یہ کہا ہو کہ تم نے ایسا اور ایسا کیوں کیا؟ اور نہ ہی کسی ایسے کام پر جسے میں نے نہ کیا ہو یہ کہا ہو کہ تم نے ایسا اور ایسا کیوں نہیں کیا؟ ۔

English Translation

Anas said: The Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم was one of the best of men in character. One day he sent me to do something, and I said: I swear by Allah that i will not go. But in my heart I felt that I should go to do what the prophet of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم had commanded me; so I went out and came upon some boys who were playing in the street. All of a sudden the Messenger of Allah صلی ‌اللہ ‌علیہ ‌وسلم who had come up behind caught me by the back of the neck, and when I looked at him he was laughing. He said: Go where I ordered you, little Anas. I replied: Yes, I am going, Messenger of Allah! Anas said: I swear by Allah, I served him for seven or nine years, and he never said to me about a thing which I had done: Why did you do such and such? Nor about a thing which I left: Why did not do such and such?
