Sunan Abu Dawood 826 - Prayer (Kitab Al-Salat)

حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ سَهْلٍ الرَّمْلِيُّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا الْوَلِيدُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ ابْنِ جَابِرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَسَعِيدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏وَعَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ الْعَلَاءِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْمَكْحُولٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عُبَادَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏نَحْوَ حَدِيثِ الرَّبِيعِ بْنِ سُلَيْمَانَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالُوا:‏‏‏‏ فَكَانَ مَكْحُولٌ يَقْرَأُ فِي الْمَغْرِبِ وَالْعِشَاءِ وَالصُّبْحِ بِفَاتِحَةِ الْكِتَابِ فِي كُلِّ رَكْعَةٍ سِرًّا. قَالَ مَكْحُولٌ:‏‏‏‏ اقْرَأْ بِهَا فِيمَا جَهَرَ بِهِ الْإِمَامُ إِذَا قَرَأَ بِفَاتِحَةِ الْكِتَابِ وَسَكَتَ سِرًّا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَإِنْ لَمْ يَسْكُتِ اقْرَأْ بِهَا قَبْلَهُ وَمَعَهُ وَبَعْدَهُ لَا تَتْرُكْهَا عَلَى كُلِّ حَالٍ.

Urdu Translation

اس طریق سے بھی عبادہ رضی اللہ عنہ سے ربیع بن سلیمان کی حدیث کی طرح روایت مروی ہے لوگوں کا کہنا ہے کہ   مکحول مغرب، عشاء اور فجر میں ہر رکعت میں سورۃ فاتحہ آہستہ سے پڑھتے تھے، مکحول کا بیان ہے: جب امام جہری نماز میں سورۃ فاتحہ پڑھ کر سکتہ کرے، اس وقت آہستہ سے سورۃ فاتحہ پڑھ لیا کرو اور اگر سکتہ نہ کرے تو اس سے پہلے یا اس کے ساتھ یا اس کے بعد پڑھ لیا کرو، کسی حال میں بھی ترک نہ کرو۔

English Translation

The above mentioned tradition has been transmitted through a different chain of narrators by Ubadah bin al-Samit like the version of al-Rabib Sulaiman. This version adds: Makhul used to recite Surah al Fatihah al-kitab quietly in the prayer in which the imam recites the Quran loudly when he observes the period of silence. If he does not observe the period of silence, recite it before him (i. e before his recitation), or along with him or after him; do not give it up in any case.
